I really enjoyed visiting the museum again. It was a day where various artists were selling their art work-kachina dolls I believe. The young man who helped me at the front desk, where you pay to enter, said to me, "The prices are on the bard" and pointed somewhere above his head. I looked at him and said, "Here's my ID & proof that I have American Indian Health" He looks up at me with a confused look on his face and says, "Oh, You're Native and a tribal member?" That made me laugh so I said, "Ayeee of course I am, I didn't say "izz-it" thats why you didn't know huh?" We both laughed. The museum was very clean and the ambassadors or volunteers are very compassionate and kind with the utmost respect when it comes to the culture and history of all the tribes and or nations whose arts' are on display. I went into the boarding school area and was remembering my moments at Theodore Roosevelt School, on my reservation, as well as Phoenix Indian High School. Those were the best times of my young life from the 6th grade into my sophomore year at PIHS. I learned a little bit more about myself without focusing on the bad parts of why boarding schools were started for many Native tribes. The memories were flooding back and I felt so grateful for my late mother sending me to the boarding schools. She herself attended one. When I was leaving the museum, several native vendors looked my way and snapped their eyes at me and turned their heads. As I walked by I said a kind "hello" to them and they IGNORED me. I had to giggle to myself and thought, wow the non Natives were a heck of a lot nicer without judgement. Overall, my visit to the museum was a wonderful one and I Highly recommend it to anyone reading my share. Do visit the Heard museum. I truly enjoyed the many displays of the different tribal cultures of the beautiful South Western Tribes/Nations. The gift shop and book store are great places to buy art as well as books. I hope your visit will be a pleasant one.
