I’ve been looking forward to having a water softener system and filter system for drinking in my house for months. When I was ready to pay to have a system put in, I contacted Joshua at Insterstellat mechanics for plumbing services.During the first estimate, I told Joshua about my plans for a water softener and RO system for both the sink and refrigerator. He suggested going with a carbon block filter in the garage and for each drinking station, saying it would eliminate the taste which he preferred. If some people didn’t like the tasteless water and wanted the mineral or RO taste, then he could install a Granulate Activated Charcoal filter (GAC). He was very proud of the GACs capabilities and the cost savings in this system versus RO.Fast forward to my second quote at my new house. I moved into a new house and had a rough idea of price from the first quote at a different house and a good idea of what filters would be installed. From what we covered, I was led to believe that a carbon block and softener in the garage paired with a carbon block for each drinking station would give me tasteless water. If I didn’t like it then I could just have him install a pair of GACs.However when asked about the GAC in the second quote, he brushes the idea off saying he won’t use one and it isn’t necessary for what I want. I’m confused but go along since I think maybe he’s confident in the carbon blocks taste elimination. The final quote of ~$1000 was consistent with pricing of the first quote, especially since the new house already had a water loop in the garage. Joshua came back and did the work without the carbon block in the garage, no big deal mistakes happen. Water doesn’t taste good at all so maybe the 2nd carbon block would fix it. Joshua comes back and installs the carbon block in the garage but also leaves a large 1.5 sq ft horribly patched section in my wall. I’m slightly stunned but somewhat confident that the builder could fix the damage free of charge. Another $350 charge. This catches me off guard after we discussed about my needs and work to be done Twice. He claims it was a separate invoice he was looking at from another woman who needed some work done. I’m confused since her work didn’t sound nearly as expensive. Again, mistakes happen and I’m excited for a water system. My water tastes terrible. It doesn’t taste like nothing, it tastes like city water. Confused and hesitant to pay more money after the surprise $350 charge, I ask what can be done to improve the taste. Joshua quotes me another $250 for another pair of filters for my drinking stations. At this point I’m not sure what’s going on or what to expect. I want to believe that a second filter would do the trick since that was still somewhat consistent with what I had been told through this process. So I schedule another appointment.Joshua comes and does the work and screws another filter to each drinking station cabinet. But he also mentions that it usually takes 3 filters to remove the taste from the water. This sounds strange since it’s the first time he’s mentioned this information in the 5 visits he’s made at my house. It contradicts his earlier comments about his confusion about how/why an RO system needs so many filters. It also comes in the 5th visit.. when he was also saying in the first 2 quotes that the taste would be easily remedied with a pair of carbon blocks and GACs. I taste the water and I’m relieved that it’s improved, although it’s not great.A few days later I fill my water thermos and realize that I paid ~$2000 following Joshua’s advice on the premise that I would have great tasting water for less cost than RO and less cabinet space taken. Yet I’ve paid just as much as I would have for an RO system and my water still tastes terrible. Annoyed and frustrated that I’ve been misled or lied to, I explain to Joshua my frustrations and my side of this job. Saying that he has promised water that tasted good at less cost and less cabinet space than an RO system and he has under delivered.Joshua claims that I misheard him. He never claimed that he could provide water that tasted good, he says that he told me that the taste isn’t for everybody. Which he did, but a GAC would fix it. I’m surprised since taste has been the topic of the water system in every quote and conversation we’ve had during his visits. Because of his complete lack of acknowledgement to the facts, I’m led to believe that he’s lying or misremembering. He offers to install RO systems for another $525 each..Frustrated, I ask him what we can do to fix this, he promised a system that tastes just as good as RO or mineral water but I don’t want to pay another $1000 for water taste that he said I could expect. I want to use the existing system that he suggested would do the job. He’s offended that I would be upset about the taste in water and my complaints about his workmanship with the damage to my garage wall. I should be lucky that he patched the wall because other plumbers would have just left the hole/damage.At this point this seems completely irrational and out of line with what was said throughout this entire process and I’m insulted that he is taking zero responsibility for the damage to my wall and the expectations he had set in our first 2 quotes. So here I am. Writing this review to warn others that Joshua does not provide the work that he promises, does not provide accurate quotes for work quoted, and expects his customers to be grateful for his clumsy attempts at patching holes in customers walls. Joshua and this company, from my experience, have poor quality business practices and poor integrity when confronted with the damage they cause and the misleading promises they do not provide.
