This is a personal opinion taken a week after I left Touch Angels. So, do not let it discourage or encourage you to be apart of Touch Angels. The overall program is beneficial to an extent filled with lots of fundamental behavioral skills that are crucial to your recovery. It is really up to you and what you want to get out of it. Pretty much just like in life we all want to be apart of it, but it starts with us and our willingness to commit to the betterment of our lives. A few things I felt challenging with the program is it does not offer much help to spiritual growth. Do not get me wrong they have sweats and talking circle, but for someone who had never grew up in a traditional household it lacked opportunity to grow in my spiritual faith. Even then once I found a church that I felt that could help me in my recovery. They wanted no part of it and offered no support of getting there even though I asked. Other clients were wanting to go to church as well, but to their dismay we were denied and the reason being other treatments MIGHT be there and try to get us to join THEIR program. Which was never an idea in our minds to begin with. We just wanted to feel the love and acceptance of others in which before when we were heavy in addiction we found in drugs. Another shortcoming was the lack of phone privileges. Weve grown up in a technological world and are expected to do most things on the phone due to COVID-19, but how many I ask am I going to do those things with an hour time of phone time per day. (Was 30 min when I first started) That is why after 4 months I had to put my foot down and said yeah I have my phone, but I feel the benefits are far greater than the consequences so I am not going to turn it in. (Especially with me beginning my BS in Entrepreneurial Studies program) I need more time than others who use it primarily for social media. So I say this with out telling you its not a good place, because like I mentioned I did grow a lot in this particular program. Dont ever let someones rules and regulations limit your own personal growth in life. If you feel your ready take that step and become independent do not second guess yourself. You will never learn how to swim if you do not test out the waters first. There is more I can say about this program both good and bad, but it really is up to you and how much you want to tame this disease.
