        I volunteer here at Southern Arizona Reptile Rescue & Education and absolutely enjoy the educational aspect that's put into each presentation during birthday events as well as stem nights at all the surrounding Tucson schools. The kids get hands on experience while learning how reptiles are key factors in our ecology.

        I cannot believe that you didnt due your due diligence to even see if the owner of a tortoise that clearly is healthy was lost shame on you , I hope justice gets served

      Southern Arizona Reptile Rescue & Education is Southern Arizona and Tucson's only licensed reptile rescue.  We are a 501c3 nonprofit (EIN #83-3968615).

      We provide reptile adoptions and surrenders/rehoming services, rehab care, reptile boarding and home visits, STEM -based Educational Presentations, STEM night appearances, community events and Reptile Adventure Birthday Parties. 

      We are available for on site visits by appointment.

      We get over 40 lost and found tortoises a year. Owners need to be more responsible and place permanent Identification on their animals and have safe, secure habitats for them. This tortoise had escaped multiple times yet the owner did nothing to rectify the continueing issue. The tortoise was held for longer than the law requires. Who is really at fault? Should the owner be given sympathy yet a rescue that did nothing legally wrong be ostracized just because they were involved? Also they did everything possible to work with the owner, the police department and the media to reunite the tortoise and owner. People are always quick to want to fault someone when something happens but sometimes things happen. Think about who could have prevented it?....the owner. Who could have been a more responsible pet owner? The owner. You can blame other all you want but this could have been prevented in the first place.
