Estrella Integrative Psychiatry

I DO NOT recommend going to Estrella Psychiatry AT ALL! Darrell Cotton is very unprofessional and inappropriate! I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe! I called Estrella Psychiatry looking to get an autism evaluation done for myself. I called TWICE asking if they did autism evaluations for adults. I was told both times that that was something they did. My son was recently diagnosed at the age of 9. After doing tons and tons of research I learned autism presents differently in women and I suddenly felt my whole life made sense. So it doesnt hurt to look into this further right? When I got into my appointment, I found out that I was NOT going to see a psychologist like I was told instead I would be seeing a nurse practitioner, who then told me that they do NOT do autism evaluations. That was the first red flag and the start of an unsafe feeling. How in the world do the ladies in the front NOT know exactly what services they provide!? I explained to her that I was told TWICE on the phone that that was something they could help me with. So she called her boss, Darrell, into her office and he told me that the lady who spoke with me on the phone knew that they did not do autism evaluations. Wow, really? Ok thats odd He also seemed to be extremely annoyed and was talking LOUD saying, there are a lot of people all of sudden wanting to get diagnosed with autism like its some trend! Sorry but I didnt even know that there are people out there wanting to pretend to have an autism diagnosis. Who would want to pretend to have any diagnosis that people struggle with?! Definitely NOT ME! - He then smiled really big and pointed to his face and asked me what he was doing. I was very confused at first and said, what do you mean? he then hit his knee and looked over at the nurse practitioner. I told him that he was smiling so then he said, and what does that mean? I said that it meant he was happy?? His smile looked more like this so I was honestly just really confused as to what his point was Oh and I cant forget to mention that I was also told about 10 different times throughout my appt that I have a chemical imbalance, and the only way to fix that was with medication. Basically that was my only option. There was absolutely NO compassion there! I felt rushed and also like they were trying to PUSH me to take medication. How can a nurse sit with someone for less than 30 minutes and know for sure that a person NEEDS medication? All I was looking for was support and guidance. Thats it!! PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

After months of stress and anxiety, I started seeking help from Josh Backens at Estrella Integrative Psychiatry. Josh has been amazing in helping identify and treat stressors in my life. As someone who tends to keep emotions bottled up, it has been incredibly easy conversing with Josh, who is personable and empathetic towards my situations. I strongly encourage Estrella Integrative and Josh on your pathway towards healing.

Please save yourself the trouble, if you are having anxiety, this man will make it worse! He does not listen to you! He has his plan for you and eigther u stick with it or he will say..." call back if u want to reschedule"! was having side effects to meds and he wanted to continue and continue with same treatment plan, I would explain what I felt and he said no you feel this! Its very sad bc he is a fellow nurse practitioner which I expected way better compassion! I am so disappointed and left in complete anxiety the way this man treated me! Karla, on the other had....sweet sweet secretary very nice always made me feel at ease and not judged.

I highly recommend Estrella Integrative Psychiatry. Dr. Nicholson truly cares about her patients and has a warm and welcoming bedside manner. She genuinely listens, which is something I have struggled to find for many years with psychiatrists. I could not recommend this practice more!

Althein Nicholson and Daryl have been wonderful. They're compassionate and seem to truly care about their patients. Their office staff has been wonderful. There were some issues with insurance and billing (which seems to be the norm with insurance companies these days), but Estrella Integrative Psychiatry was very helpful and patient with the process.
