Absolutely awful. The front desk lady was very nice at first, but ended up being an absolutely rude and judgemental person by the morning. We were polite. Left the room clean. She litterally kicked me out because thr management there is to cheap to fix the back door lock, and my boyfriend put a rock in front of it to prop it open so we could get back in (we stood right outside the door it's not like we let anyone in !) She litterally asked me if I was on drugs and profiled me based off the way i look because I'm tattooed and she knew I was a dancer . Do not recommend. She cussed at me when I left the keys in the front and asked her if she needed anything from me. Wouldn't even look me in the eye.

When I travel I dont anything fancy - a clean bed, shower and towels, etc. This place if functional and suits my needs. The room is adequate, clean and comfortable. No A/C is common this far north as are shared facilities (kitchen and bathroom) for some older hotels. Think of it as a return to college, to a degree. The shower stalls could use a good cleaning, I checked two and they both looked pretty bad (the rest of the bathroom looked okay). However, I will never stay again - based solely on how rude the person was when I arrived. I tried to be pleasant, but he simply barked instructions at me. I felt more like I was being booked than checked in. I have friends in Anchorage law enforcement who, upon learning I had booked a room here, urged me to move. They apparently respond here frequently and warned me to leave absolutely nothing of value in my car. While nothing happened to my car, the attitude of the person at the desk said a lot - it was obvious they deal with some difficult people, but I was an out of town guest, not a felon looking for a place to stay. They even have a sign by the office warning you - if you obey the house rules (photo of Glenda, The Good Witch) - if you dont (photo of the Full Metal Jacket Marine Drill Instructor. I just wish they would start with the Glenda attitude, not the Gunny Sgt. Others have had good experiences here, based on the reviews, but if you are looking for friendly staff, go elsewhere. === Thanks for your response Max. But I just point out my observations. Your clerk (or perhaps is was you?) was very rude to me at check in from the first words out of his mouth. This greeting put me off to speaking with him again, so I didn't bring concerns to him about the bathrooms, or his attitude. The sign on the window doesn't seem very hospitable either. As for the law enforcement aspect, I simply conveyed what local folks told me - they are in the building multiple times every month; this is recent info, not old news. They seriously urged me to cancel my reservation, eat the fees and sleep on their floor instead. I'm glad to hear that others were treated well, but this a review of my experiences, not theirs. I'm sure anyone reading these reviews can come to their own decision and, obviously, the majority opinion is positive. This is what prompted me to select this hotel. But I won't again. So if you were interested in good customer service, perhaps a 'sorry that happened, we'll try to do better' or reaching out to me to discuss the issues would have been your response. I have no axe to grind, I simply write reviews of places I visit during my travels. Most are quite positive. But Ingra House - I won't be staying again - I suspect we'll both be happy about that. But please - do clean the showers. I'm including some photos so people don't think that's 'hearsay' as well.

I felt quite confortable and relaxed at this hotel. It turned out to be more quiet and clean than some of the other hotels I stayed at during my vacation. I was pleasantly surprised by the new and modern fixtures and furniture ( as this had nor been the case with some of the other recommended hotels). Rooms: The rooms were cozy and equipped with desk, bed, mini fridge , closet, phone and TV . Towels and shampoo & conditioner were available upon arrival. The room was very modern. Safety: While in the city, the hotel compound remains safe with someone at the desk at all times and key card access inly to areas of entry. Walkability: Most definitely walkable distance to heart of the city. Noteworthy details: The hosts were very pleasant, polite and accommodating. As a visitor not from North America, they were able to answer all my questions and provide information and tips for sightseeing and moving around. They communicated well with each other before shift changes so there wasn't any confusion or distress for guests. I wasn't sure what to expect with the shared spaces ( bathroom & kitchen). But they turned out to be completely fine: guests were respectful of each others spaces, the spaces were immaculately clean and well maintained and the fixtures were new and modern. Entry and exit to these shared areas were clearly outlined and indicated.

Despite being specifically told to NOT block any of the exterior doors open, you not only elected to do that anyway, you then left the property (with the door blocked open) compromising the safety and security of guests and staff remaining in the building. And for some juvenile reason, you did it again in the AM AND berated one of my staff members on the way out the door when we opted to terminate your reservation. #classy0/5 rating as a guest. I won't be seeing you here at the hotel ever again as you and your +1 are banned in perpetuity.-Max

Thanks for your review, Russell. Sometimes guests and staff don’t make a love connection during check-in. It’s happened to me, and happened to every front desk agent who has ever worked for me. When it does happen, I appreciate the guest coming to me right away so I can investigate and attempt to resolve. That rarely happens, sadly. What typically happens is the guest says nothing during their stay, then address it during their review and add any other items they think are wrong with the hotel as if to somehow bolster their complaint. The items they add tend to be petty and don’t represent the vast majority of reviews that indicate satisfaction with what we offer and how we conduct business.True to form, you did just that. I have a couple questions: How many times did the police come to the hotel during your stay? How many vehicles were vandalized during your stay? The answer to both those questions is none. Had that occurred, you would have been right to mention it in your review. But it didn’t happen and your comments about it are not even remotely relevant to your stay here, and are nothing more than hearsay with no basis in reality.Your “friends in law enforcement” gave you bad/old info. I suspect they have never set foot in the hotel, at least not in the last 6 years that I’ve been managing it. I do, on occasion, require the assistance of local law enforcement to deal with a trespasser on the property, or to remove a guest who has violated house rules and refuses to leave. This happens almost exclusively during the winter season and even then, it’s a rare occurrence. I challenge you or anyone else to contact the Anchorage Police Department and request the current number of calls placed by the hotel for assistance. That’s public record information. It’s also a very low number. Local law enforcement knows what kind of hotel this is and how it’s run. We’re so far off their radar that when they do show up, the rookie cops don’t even know that we’re a hotel, that’s how unfamiliar they are with the property. In fact, both local and federal law enforcement utilize the hotel, from time to time, for guests they need to protect either as witnesses or to protect and house vulnerable domestic violence victims. I’m proud of that because of all the inexpensive hotels in my area, I’m the only one that consistently provides a safe secure environment for those individuals, and I maintain a great relationship with those agencies and will continue to do so.One final note, it’s Glinda not Glenda and Gunny Sergeant Hartman. I can and do channel both those personalities depending on the circumstances. And my staff does as well. Your comments don’t reflect the kind of experience that the vast majority guests have here, but they do reflect on you as an individual. Folks who review the comments before booking easily identify the unhappy guests and comments prior to arrival. They consistently tell me that they don’t understand the negativity and deduce that the person making those comments was just an unhappy person with an axe to grind. I’m inclined to agree with that assessment.-Max
