I disagree with previous assessments, but can only respond to my experiences which have been very positive and helpful. Mr Gathers has given me good guidance and helped me with submissions that support my VA case. If you take a position of mutual respect, good things will happen.

Unfortunately I found the two gentleman in this office to be very rude and condescending. They may want to consider updating the address on google because I had a difficult time finding the office as it is on 10th st and not railroad dr. I reached out to this office to file a claim for disability. I have never done this before and for anyone who has gone through the process it can be a challenge for a variety of reasons. On one hand the paperwork and questions can be overwhelming but on the other hand it is a challenge emotionally for a service member to even take the step to walk in the door and admit that they are broken and need to make a claim. Both individuals that I spoke with were very quick to speak but slow to listen. I did not fill out some paperwork prior to my appointment primarily because I really did not know how to answer the questions on the form. As I mentioned for me the appointment was more for me to gather the information as to what documentation I will need and to get a better understanding of how the process works. Rather than answering my questions the gentleman lectured me for about 20 minutes talking to me about how his time is valuable and that I did not show up prepared. They were also both quick to tell me about how they were in the service and one of them mentioned being a first sergeant. I still have not connected the dots on how that was relevant to helping me in the process. As a senior officer in the Army Reserves I was very disappointed with the care that these gentleman provided. It felt like they were talking to me as if I was a private. If any of my Soldiers ever needed help I would most certainly not refer them to this office. In fact I told the gentleman that I did not need to be lectured as I stood up to leave. He basically escorted me to the door and provided absolutely zero help. If these gentleman claim to take pride in assisting veterans then they may want to recalculate how they interact with people and show some empathy to those that may not fully understand the process. Sometimes people come to the VA office not knowing what they need but one would expect that this office would help them figure it out. Simply not the case here. I am honestly ashamed in the experience that I had. I most likely wont be back and I will either struggle through the claim on my own or go to another office. As a person who has 18 years of service and about to retire I am absolutely ashamed that these are the two individuals that the veterans of Lee county have to rely on. Shameful!!!
