1 Star. They took my money and ran. ***edit*** To their credit, they finally refunded my money. Thank you, T., for squaring this away. I paid $75 for a consultation on replacing doors and windows. Guy showed up, took a bunch of measurements and pictures, talked to me about color options, etc. He said they'd get me the info about how to move forward. 5 days later I still hadn't heard from them. Called them. Didnt get a legit answer till day 6. My doors/"rough outs" were 1.5 inches undersized. They decided the project was "out of scope", but instead of telling me that, they ghosted me. "We're just a handyman." I asked for a refund. ***As a courtesy because they've finally given me my refund, I've rewritten my original review. Though I will also say they only finally verbally confirmed giving me a refund after they saw this review. The company decided my project wasn't what they wanted to do. That's fair. However, not immediately calling/telling me isn't. The fact that I had to call them and run this to ground to get any info is no bueno. After I asked for a refund, they gave me a slapped-together quote and told me it was on me to go buy my own doors and windows. They quoted me $1000 a day with max of 3x days to complete the work in increasing my "rough-outs" and re-framing old worn wood. But that would still be reliant on the door measurements, they never provided, which may or may not have needed to be custom made depending on the framing work. Their own contract terms state "6. Materials: .... at customer's request, Contractor will purchase the materials and deliver them to the job site. Materials purchased by a customer are not warranted by Contractor. If Contractor purchases the materials, the costs of the materials plus an industry standard markup for handling services will be charged to customer in addition to the labor costs. Reasonable shopping time for materials the Contractor purchases are charged at the normal labor rate identified on the front of this invoice. Shopping time may be affected....." I'm dumb and ignorant on this topic. Asking that someone hold my hand through this process and help me purchase the material was reasonable and expected according to their own terms. Ace Hardware does not sell doors and windows. They have no choice but have you purchase those items through a company such as Home Depot. Home Depot sells doors, including custom-sized doors, however, they won't modify your existing framing/rough-out. Instead, they provide contact info for unaffiliated third-party handyman services. This company can't sell you doors through Ace. They decided my project was out-of-scope and didnt tell me until I followed up with them. They only provided me with a quote after I asked for a refund. And they decided not to help me purchase the materials. I can't speak to their other services, however, I highly recommend you consider a different company if you need help purchasing/installing/framing new doors and windows.
