Growing up, I have always feared the dentist due to opinions from my parents and their apprehension to taking me. When I was young, I had a terrible bicycle accident that left me with two broken (in half) incisors, unto which my first dentist rebuilt the bottom of the teeth- using some type of plastic material (unsure of the procedure and its details as I was 8 years old). Later on- into my college years- my two front teeth began to stain and darken with one, even chipping. After suffering intense pain from that tooth, a dentist in my college town discovered a benign cyst on the top of the tooth unto which he performed root canals on that particular tooth and the adjacent one- in order to properly excavate and extract the cyst. This left my two front teeth being even darker and more sensitive, chipping even further- to the point of causing such insecurity, that I refused to open my mouth in pictures. But, as I have gotten older and have entered medical school, I have begun to learn/appreciate/respect medicine and the science of it all. After discussing my fears and inhibitions with my fianc, she convinced me to visit her familys dentist to get a consult on fixing my front teeth- because with my wedding coming up, Id like my teeth to look normal. So, I scheduled a consultation appointment with Dr. Wilbanks to review my teeth, listen to my concerns, and provide different options. Though Im light years away from understanding dentistry and the physiology/procedures, I tried researching before hand- thinking that I would need a complete implant for both teeth. I was wrong as Dr. Wilbanks told me that they were good teeth and that getting crowns would be the best route. He patiently listened and acknowledged all of my insecurities and inhibitions, as he provided a very personable/calm sense of care. Dr. Wilbanks gave very informative instructions on the work-up of getting the crowns (cleaning, whitening, temporary crowns, and permanents). Financially, I am on a strict budget, which I relayed to him as well as his staff, but he and his staff really wanted and tried to make it easier on me. He had multiple conservations with my insurance company, advocating for more coverage of each crown. Though they didnt cover as much as he had hoped, he allowed me to utilize a payment plan for the procedures. But, just 2 days ago, he placed my permanent crowns onto my teeth and I can honestly say, that I havent felt more comfortable about my smile in my whole entire life. Dr. Wilbanks really made one of, if the not the biggest, impacts on me, my confidence, and my mentality. Just to provide some key attributes/experiences I had with him, I will highlight some of them: He probably spent more time talking with me about medical school, physiology, chemistry, and history of dentistry, than he did actually working on my teeth! It made me feel very important and cared for. He was very picky in many ways such as: - maintenance of my teeth after I left the clinic - my bite (after placing the permanent crowns) - my hygiene - imprints - symmetry of my teeth - future needs He is extremely easy to converse with as he explains literally everything he does before actually performing it. He was so devoted to my case/procedure that he even took photos of my teeth on his personal cell phone in order to send them to the crown manufacturer/lab. Overall, for someone, so initially timid to even think about approaching a dentist clinic, Dr. Wilbanks made it feel just like going to get a haircut or something else that is very effortless. He totally restored/initiated my respect and appreciation for dentists. Also, his staff is absolutely impeccable in the way that they function and operate- the nicest people you will meet. I can honestly say, that I hope to never visit another dentist, other than Dr. Wilbanks. I feel so much more confident in myself and the way I look as I have Dr. Wilbanks to thank for it. I wouldnt dare choose a different dentist- Dr. Wilbanks is the best....10/10!!
