TLDR: Awesome apartment location that is so poorly managed and maintained that it is a terrible place to live for any price. I mean any price.
-Pictures attached are of holes in the apartment walls during summer.
Pros:
-Fantastic location. Right behind a school and a church. One block from UAB, and a 5 minute drive to downtown or five points.
-Historical division of town. Very earthy, plenty of trees, foiage, and plants to keep you busy during a walk.
Cons:
-Landlord lacks courtesy. I attached a screenshot of what happened when I attempted to get two more copies of our keys for the house.
-Landlord lacks promptness. Holes in walls, broken utilities, missing windows and much more took weeks to fix at times. Including in winter and summer, when not having a window, or having a hole in the wall severely impacts comfort.
-Rodents invade the apartment when given the smallest possible opening. The apartment does not have proper patching and construction around it's base to prevent animals from invading. We had racoons, rats and squirrels all come in through holes in insulation, floors, and ceilings. We blocked these exits ourselves using random boards and other devices, because Michael Barry would not repair the building.
-Insects are a constant threat. We lived like monks for weeks(no food allowed in the house, literally. ), spread diatemaceous earth across every surface, and used every kind of poison known to man to prevent fleas and cockroaches from constantly entering our home, but the rest of the quadplex next to our section is so intensely infested that the only way to maintain a healthy environment is constant, unrelenting war against the ionsects.
-Landlord has extremely unproffessional workers around and in the houses of tenants. One day a worker (on a Monday morning) went on a tangent after Michael Barry kept telling them to work more, and just busted a window, cussed him out, and then left. Never to be seen again.
-Poor insulation leads to inflated utility costs. Enough said.
