I am a bbq snob, and I am very critical of all bbq places as I think I smoke some pretty dang good meat myself. Visiting from Kentucky, heard good things about this place and had to try it. I got ribs, wife got fish sandwich, parents got pulled pork sandwiches. FANTASTIC! Subtle smoke flavor on the ribs, sauce was very tasty, all other food was great. Great customer service was great as well. Highly recommend!

Bob Sykes Bar-B-Q 1724 9th Ave. N, Bessmer Score: 80 Inspection date: March 6 A live roach was seen on a utensil handle near the brisket pit. The inspector noted there was an accumulation of food debris in the steamer and a buildup of grime and grease inside ovens.

We stopped in here for lunch after a local recommendation. Overall we were pretty pleased with the experience. Loved that as soon as we walked in they had an open pit there with a variety of meats cooking. A sign said that Monday was their Catfish specials day so I thought Id try that, that is until I walked in and smelled the smoke from the open pit. I then decided I would have to try their BBQ. I opted for their Low Carb Special which included 2 ribs, your choice of pulled chicken or pork (I chose the pork), and a salad. The meals did not include a beverage so that was extra. My meal ended up being just under $17 which for me seems like a pricey lunch but it was a generous portion of food. The salad was good but nothing spectacular. The ribs were really good, the pulled pork left me disappointed. I enjoy eating my BBQ without adding sauce. To me great BBQ should be able to be enjoyed with just the natural juices, smoke, and seasoning. The pulled pork lacked flavor (smoke or seasoning) and was very dry. Maybe I should have tried it with some sauce added but Im diabetic so I try to avoid sauces which are normally loaded with sugar. This place is definitely worth a try if youre looking for an option in the area!
