Bringing Hell to Ulster County.

I was the director for the business that was above E&M Associates. I was quiet surprised at how friendly certain staff were when the company I worked for paid their rent on time however beyond that things became very tenuous and the tone with regard to anything broken became antagonistic and virtually impossible to resolve.
The item that was the most egregious was the Air Conditioning that they "fixed" but continued to blow warm air during the hottest days of the summer. Why am I writing this so late? I was working 12-14 hour days and sometimes 6-7 days a week that included at least a 2-4 hour travel on the subway for a social worker that was at a loss - wondering is there something wrong with my very being? I was barely being paid enough to pay my rent, student loans, and additional expenses (this rent payment ironically was also sent to the same organization as well - name change or not) and the problems I had in Harlem (leaking ceilings, bathroom leaks, broken windows, dirty radiators, a combative super, patchwork walls, rodent infestation, etc.
The work that the superintendent did was never done professionally or smoothly, etc). I lost many days off of work because of his hostility towards me and I felt this was because he felt he could treat me this way (I was my partner's boyfriend), my name was not on the lease..
What is the major issue? Why did everything take days even months to resolve? Why do they not care about anything except the money they receive? I do not place labels nor do I want to disparage - but they sure do treat people they are responsible for like garbage and second or even third class citizens. Who needs hot water from 12:00 AM - 5:00 AM? Who needs A/C for medically fragile elderly persons that are working to improve their lives through treatment? This management company didn't care about any of these things. Nor did they specify why they enjoyed wasting time (something so precious to them - they left their offices promptly at 5:00) but they also did not care about others circumstance. Looking back I realized that this pretty much explains why my relationship suffered greatly, as I sank into a deep depression, I began questioning my own ability to resolve concerns addressed by my boss, my partner, and even myself. I was written up for not getting work done sufficiently, and all this occurred at my expense (no one else was to blame). My boss at the time kept insisting I accept responsibility and stop blaming others.
Well, luckily I was able to find another job - right in time. However, now it seems the same problem plaques me - some people just don't like you and will lie about anything to get you in trouble. I am not sure what this is about - but I will continue to endure. I have no other choice.
I of course, will remember the months that the consumers went without A/C some with a compromised health status. I will also remember the employees that lost faith in their director (due to my inability to communicate with the landlord quickly and efficiently for a prompt resolution, when I had to repeat again and again the a/c is broken and the hot air that is blowing is not cold air to the landlord's staff.
What a colossal waste of time - I am glad that other people have experienced poor response and unprofessional behavior from this company as well. At least I am not the only one (too bad people's recovery, my overall health, my relationships, and many of the employees family member's livelihoods were jeopardized by their cavalier approach to saving a couple dollars. Was it worth it?
