I was pretty disappointed by whoever I spoke to on the phone about two weeks ago. My cat, who is not even two years old yet was very sick and seemed like she was dying and seemed like she was suffering at the time I did not have funds for a vet And I felt she was suffering so I contacted the Humane Society about setting up euthanization appointment and to ask questions about possibly surrendering to avoid euthanizing her. They didnt have anything for a couple days out, which wasnt really acceptable to me because my cat was suffering then she mentioned that they could take her in as an emergency but that I would not be allowed to be there during the euthanization if they do it that way!!!!!!!! Why is it that they can accommodate you if you have an appointment but if you dont have an appointment, it takes away your right to be with your dying animal? Im sorry, but it just sounds mean and screwed up not only that but she didnt offer any condolences or words of comfort. She was just very official and to the point like she had no heart. Many of you will judge me for not having the funds available to bring her to a veterinarian right away but many of us dont have thousands of dollars laying around. Fortunately, the story has a happy ending, and I found a local veterinarian that did take her in and I did have the money to put down in order for them to work with me on paying them over the next three months. After $1050 and two vet visits later she is doing just fine and is back to her regular self. No thanks to whatcom Humane Societies resources or kindness. I might add two that my call was shortly after opening. Theres no way they couldve been that busy where she couldnt have shown a little kindness or willingness to maybe offer up some helpful resources.

They treat you like trash. They didnt like the arrangements that we had made for the pet that we were interested in, so we changed it according to their liking, and they said that we still couldnt adopt because we had changed it. We changed it to their liking, and they still had an issue. Spoke to me like I was stupid, and didnt know how to take care of a pet, which was funny, because I have adopted from here before, and I am perfectly capable of taking care of a pet.

I adopted a dog on 3/12/24. After some time and a very unfortunate event. I reached out to my dog trainer, vet, and the humane society. Due to the nature of this event I had to bring my dog back to the humane society to be rehomed. I was and still am absolutely heartbroken. I did everything I was supposed to do to prevent any negative experiences for this puppy. When arriving to the humane society, a member of the staff immediately took the dog from me handed me papers and said fill these out and someone will speak to you shortly. I assumed they were going to do an exam on the dog and start the intake process. As I was filling out paperwork they sat and held my dog as she was whining for me. I stated that I had changed her name from the original name and she answers to her new name. They continued to call her by her old name and hold her where she could see me and continuing to whine. Not one person from the staff spoke to me about why I was surrendering her. I wanted an update if possible on if she gets readopted. I grew very close to this dog in the short time I had her. She learned basic commands and became potty trained in her time with me. Unfortunately she just did not work out with my other animals and to give her a better job stressful life I made the hard decision to surrender her. Giving up an animal at any point in time is not an easy thing to do. I did not make that decision overnight. I know it was the right thing to do, however Im still heartbroken over it. The staff there made many comments amongst themselves where I could hear saying this is why you dont get a dog with a high energy level. Her energy level had nothing to do with why I chose to give her up. They each had attitude and were very heartless when interacting with me. And to not even let me say goodbye to her and have to watch her whining for me just staring at me broke me. Do better.
