We have been taking our dogs to Arvada Flats for the last 20 years. Dr. Bassett's team is compassionate and skilled at what they do. They have supported my family through the good pet parent times as well as the bad. They do not recommend tests unless necessary. I would wholeheartedly recommend sending your pets there.

I always like them. Never had a problem except for one billing issue but it wasn't a big deal. They usually take my dogs in on the same day as calling. It's a little more expensive than others, but it's worth it.

Never made a review for my experiences at this place as I really like DR. Bender, huge respect for her but everything else is beyond acceptable. I wanna bring up 3 examples, which are the 3 examples why I was visiting this place, the last example happened today. I was only 4 times at this place. As a side information I am a breeder that breeds extra healthy dogs and I'm a homeopath as well treating my animals by myself due to straight bad experiences with vets either misdiagnosing , mistreating or both in order to keep making more money. Example 1: in 2021 I had a healthy litter of 12 pups. I deworm my dogs naturally and homeopathically and never had worms. For the litter, as usual I gave the vets a collective stool sample of 11 pups and one separate example from a pup that had diarrhea. The results were all negative, both for worms and unusual bacteria. When paying for the stool samples I was told to purchase dewormer for all pups and an antibiotic for the diarrhea puppy. I asked why since the samples were negative so why would you treat healthy dogs with dewormer and antibiotics if it clearly harms them? Example 2: My youngest offspring had an ear infection. Avada flats decided to treat the infection with antibiotics against my concerns. The infection got better for a couple of weeks and then came back way worse and when I went back to the vets they suggested to give more antibiotics which I denied and decided to treat my dog with homeopathics and healed him completely without the ear infection reoccurring. Example 3 and the reason why I will never come back and highly warn you get your pet treated here: A week ago one of my dogs broke his toe. when it happened I felt already the toe is broken but wanted to get an x-ray to be sure. The x-ray at avada flats showed that his toe was broken several times. The vet said there's no way around a large stint to keep the toe safe to grow back together healthy. I received my dog back with a stint all the way up his leg. Even though only his little toe was broken. I declared my concerns that I think that the stint might have a negative impact on the physique of my dog. I was assured that the stint is necessary and i was told to come back earlier than in a week if something doesn't feel right for the dog. 4 days after having the stint I noticed that my dog seemed to be all of a sudden in pain which he wasn't before. So I called the place to get the stint sooner changed than just after a week. they were not able to give me an earlier appointment not the day I called. Not the day after. I had to come back at the original appointment which was today. Another vet removed the stint and saw a major damage on my dog's dew claw now which was fine prior to stinting him. Now the dew claw was barely hanging on. It was bloody, it was stinking and highly infected. The treatment had caused an infection in the dew claw of my dog but instead of paying me money back they wanted to charge me more and of course give my dog again antibiotics. I denied and refused. This clinic has caused an infection injury in my dog by treating him the wrong way and now not being able to treat that way as they suggested with a stint which is now not possible anymore. Instead of saying sorry for harming my dog, they charged me even more money. This place is not helping you. It is harming your dog like most of the veterinarian clinics. It makes money by harming your dog so you can come back and pay even more money. They also suggested to amputate my dog's toe which is clearly insane when you imagine what an impact it has again on the dog's physique. When you take a toe off that is simply broken. Who amputates a broken toe from a human? I feel highly offended by this veterinary clinic by how stupid they think I am. I know more than them and I'm better off treating my animals completely by myself. Then going to this place, paying money and getting my dog back in worse condition than before. Avoid this place and all greedy vets in general. They are business and not out for your dogs health!

Thank you for your review and we want to apologize that you’ve had negative experiences at our hospital. It’s important to us that we have open communication and mutual trust and respect with our clients. Cultivating patient care with our pet owners is who we are, and we apologize we have not lived up to this with you. We take all of our reviews very seriously, and all doctors have been involved in the discussion of your review.Given the concerns you brought up, briefly we will respond here:Concern 1:Fecal sample efficacy depends on the lifecycle of each different parasite, therefore it’s possible to run multiple fecal samples in a pet and not detect all or any of the parasites present. Many of the worms our patients can carry are contagious to other pets and also to the humans in our patient’s homes. When your puppies get adopted to their new families, if we are the veterinarians who examined the pups, it’s our responsibility to keep the pups and their new family members parasite free.Concern 2:Ear infections are variable in their causes and treatments. Over the counter ear treatments can be helpful, or they can be harmful, depending on what the canal, ear drum and cytology look like. Sometimes we show owners how to clean ears, sometimes we are treating allergies or foreign bodies, sometimes we are treating ear drum ruptures or middle ear disease. Depending if bacteria are seen and the type of bacteria or yeast we see under the microscope, we may discuss meds. How we proceed with each patient’s ear issue is situational and discussed openly with our owners, presenting all options for the immediate and any long term concerns.Concern 3:Your pet’s toe is fractured in many locations and our doctors were working with you to help it heal. For reasons discussed with you a splint was needed, unfortunately pressure sores can be a complication of splints in pets regardless of how well the splint was placed or how well pressure points were padded. Yesterday we recommended a bulky padded bandage to dissuade weight bearing and help the fractured toe heal while also treating the pressure sore. The dewclaw is not torn, there is an inflamed pressure sore in that area that’s been inside a bandage and these sores run the risk of becoming infected. Amputation was brought up and discussed with you only as a warning that we need to prioritize healing this fracture well which can take 6- 8 weeks of minimal weight bearing. No one wants to amputate your pet’s toe, but if the fractures do not heal well and there is pain, we would not want your pet to have pain due to non healed fracture complications such as arthritis, and in this scenario a toe amputation would be preferable to a lifetime of pain.**We do feel compelled in defense of veterinarians everywhere to point out that in your review the negative statements made about veterinarians in general could not be further from the truth. It’s important for pet health and client well being that breeders and veterinarians work together. Most breeders and veterinarians are incredibly caring professional people who work very hard together for families and their pets. We may not always agree as veterinarians and breeders both live daily with the knowledge of our own experiences, and have different education, but the working together for a common bond is our professional responsibility. Your interpretation of veterinarian professionals, whether at our clinic or other clinics, is shocking and we genuinely hope for you to prioritize seeking that veterinarian that you do trust and can work with for the health of your future pups, your pup’s families, and for yourself and your support in your pet health needs.**Regarding your pet care, please let us know where we can transfer your pet’s medical records. It is of utmost importance to us that your new veterinarian has your pet’s records and can contact us should they have any questions asap especially for that toe.All the best to you,AFs Medical Team
