I am aware this is a business first and today at this location I experienced what it feels like to be an account number for an invoice...lenghty, however it is my experience.
On Monday May 27, 2023 I brought my pet/ family member Sandy to Banfield Hospital in Wilmington, NC due to concerns of her changed behaviors in the last 2 days.
I called earlier in the morning for a 10:30am appointment. Upon arrival we checked in after giving details about Sandy's concerned behaviors.
I was told today's services would be $168 I asked if I could be billed and it was stated that was not an option albeit the amount for the blood work was financially strenuous, I decided to commit; Then she was taken to the exam room. Approximately 15-20 minutes later the doctor come into the waiting room where we waiting.
Dr Seller's updates us that the blood work looks normal and that sandy had a "small episode" and was given medication. However while the doctor was updating us the nurse called out for the doctor to come into the exam room; Sandy was having a grand mal seizure.
Dr Sellers returned back to the waiting room and stated she gave sandy medicine midazolam and mentioned three options 1st we could take sandy home and observe her
2nd option we could take her to a clinic where she could be administered ivermectin intravenous b/c they "Banfield Hospital" did not have the medication/ proper equipment, Or 3rd option to leave sandy at Banfield Hospital and she could be monitored there.
Upon being giving the (3 options) I asked if there were fees associated w/ option 2 Dr Sellers stated "yes there is" being that I was experiencing an unexpected expense for the services rendered for $168 I decided to leave her at Banfield.
I did leave to go pick up her medication but it was not ready because the doctor needed to call in a new prescription for gabapentin and a higher dosage for keppra which she was previously prescribed. I called Banfield and talked to Veronica to inform her I was going to pick up the medication and then come pick up Sandy.
At no time did I receive a call that there would be additional fees of services rendered on behalf of Sandy which had increased a total $330.33 nor was I told when I called the facility to state after I get the medication from a near by Costco I would be there in less than 20 minutes. I am appalled at the process of having to experience putting the account in collections after I was told the cost of todays visit would be $168. It turns out the total was $330.33
Very unsatisfactory practices

I'm grateful to the helpful staff at PetSmart for resolving a stressful situation with an expired prescription during my recent visit to purchase dog food.
