Been living in Castlewoods for three years. Love this place. Professional management team, relatively nice and respectful neighbors, well-maintained with beautiful views in a great neighborhood close to downtown.

Very small apartments, inaccurate square footage and photos of apartment units. Not very good business practice, as the layout and floor plans that were advertised were not the actual units available.

I wanted to write this review while I lived in Castlewood Apartments, but I wanted to make sure I gathered all appropriate information prior to this post.I moved there  in July of 2019, and it was a wonderful place to live under the previous management. With the new management taking over, this has been the worst place to live! I would like for all those to know that I would never recommend this complex as a place to live.First, when the new management started there were multiple breaks in in all areas of the complex. They promote this complex to be secure and safe and I would say it is the complete opposite. The Walnut Creek Police reported to calls in this complex once a week to which I was assumed was related to domestic violence. The management team did NOTHING when my car was broken into, and when the entire mailbox room and mail boxes were raided in the middle of the night. My packages were stolen on many occasions, and management said call the company to get reimbursed... They also have ZERO surveillance cameras, and do not plan to buy any for their "secure building".  The front doors to the complex are always propped open, and anyone can walk in whenever they would like. Second, the complex is simply falling apart. The pipes in the building are leaking. The hall I lived in, and a friend down the hall, was always sopping wet with a large puddle. Management solved the problem by putting an orange cone, and a large fan to dry it out. Those that work at home, you couldn't be on a call because the fan was so loud in the hallway. All of the hallway ceilings have holes in them, and there is very clearly mold in some of the units. You can smell and see it. The popcorn ceilings probably have asbestos in them, but the signed lease says it doesn't. The trash cans/recycle in the garage is everywhere. I took multiple photos and sent to management with no response to the solve the problem. Lastly, Cambridge management and the front office staff are incompetent when it comes to leases and finances. I moved out in July of 2022 and contacted the office regarding my move out date and the asked about the prorated rent. Jessica Helton stated that I owed XXX amount which I paid on time. After I had moved out, while they were in my unit cleaning and doing repairs, they told me that I owed the remainder of my rent for the month!!  I went back and forth when Jessica told me it was only a certain amount, but they continued to fight with me and stated the I owed all of it even though Jessica made a mistake on how much I owed. Along with this, they charged me over 400 dollars in utilities fees for a total of 7 days. My previous utilities were an average 80 dollars for the entire month. I finally got an email from Steffi at Cambridge Management who continued to fight with me over my rent amount, and threatened to send me to collections because I was now "late" on my bill. I provided all communications to Steffi with Jessica and NEITHER of them did anything to make this process either. She accused me of lying about my conversations with Jessica. I requested several pieces of information and was not provided any of it by them. They also tried to charge me a "late fee" on my move out fees even though Jessica was the one that informed me late of any of this information. Steffi FINALLY was able to set me up on a "payment plan" and took off the 50 dollar late fee, but only because I fought with her. After Jessica's mistake in the rent amount, I would assume that Cambridge Management would wave the fee, as they already leased out my previous unit... I am seeking legal advice on this issue with this terrible management. If you are considering renting in Castlewood I would strongly recommend to look somewhere else. The building is not safe and secure, not clean and up to date, and the management company employees are the sketchiest people I have ever met and worked with.

I really dont understand why Castlewood has such a low rating. Ive lived here for over a year now. The management is so kind and understanding. The residents that I have come across have been very polite and friendly. Its defiantly a little community we have here. The grounds are always well maintained. I gave it 5 stars because I truly have had a great experience here.
