Ive been to the office several times over the past couple weeks for a cleaning and some dental work. Before I get into my review let me just say that I have a long-standing fear of any dental related stuff, even cleanings. (had some very rough hygienists at other offices in the past and the cleanings were awful) because of those fears coupled with the pandemic I got behind on a lot of medical stuff including dental. I was well overdue to go in and was scared that it was going to be painful enduring the cleaning. I went in expecting some level of pain and just hoping it wasnt going to be really bad. Dominique did my cleaning and she was wonderful, gentle enough so there was no pain but still did a very thorough job. Initially My hands were clenched in anticipation of pain but there was none. I had some visible stains and she was able to get them off my teeth without hurting me. Im a big tea drinker and she gave me some tips to help keep the stains off until my next cleaning. Im really happy to have found a good hygienist. Honestly she is terrific, I made sure to schedule my 6 month cleaning with her..
Dr. Mashru took care of two fillings for me and also made a new cap for a tooth after one fell off. The work was done in two visits and despite my extreme fear of dental work her and her assistant were patient and understanding of my nervousness. (Ive had some bad experiences in the past with other dentists like not being numbed properly so feeling pain while the dentist was drilling, and damage to a nerve hit with the needle that left my face in the chin area numb in one spot for about a year until the nerve repaired) I had been to her at some point before the pandemic hit and didnt have any issues, but my old fears of bad dental experiences crept into my head so I was scared anyway. Yes the numbing needle hurts but other than that I felt nothing, there was no pain while drilling. And Im happy to report that I did not notice any issues with nerve damage after the novacaine wore off. When that happened to me years ago (different dentist) it was probably just a freak thing but Im still scared of it happening again. Its a hard fear to let go of so I cant say its gone yet, but when things go smoothly like this it helps a lot. I was already significantly more relaxed for the 2nd visit and once again things went off without a hitch. It feels good to know that now Ive had several visits with the same dentist and they were all good. I trust her and her staff and wont hesitate to return to Dr. Mashru for dental work in the future.
April 2024 update: its now been a couple years after my initial review and Im still going here for dental needs. Dr. Mashru just did a couple small fillings for me and things went very smoothly. I was nervous as usual but it was quick and mostly painless. other than the numbing needle I didnt feel much except some pressure while she was drilling. There was one moment where I felt a tiny bit of pain just for an instant but it wasnt bad. (For some reason my face is slow to numb. Every time Novocain kicks in harder after I leave the office when the drilling is done. Then it lasts for a solid 4-5 hours at home. My body is just weird that way, slow to take effect and slow to clear out of my system. Ive come to expect that and as long as the pain is cut down to a little pinch or dull ache when the drilling starts its fine)
