Beautiful small capital city on the Kanawha River. Great place to bike and run. The capitol grounds are very nice. Lots of good restaurants in the downtown area. Cultural events are plentiful.

Now that the platform has been rebuilt, this is a much better train station, but it still has issues, like the dead end emergency exit to nowhere, that is inaccessible to disabled riders, or the other end of the platform, with an emergency exit door that doesn't work anymore.

This Amtrak station is nice and clean and the man, Matt, who works here is awesome. Unfortunately, Ester-woman with black mask and bun who works on the Cardinal 50 from WV to Charlottesville specifically 25005 829 Cardinal at 8:27am Coach Class to NYC is absolutely awful and rude. She made fun of my mother who is legally blind and refused to help her understand where her seat was or give her any sort of direction. We understand they are not supposed to touch people but she went above and behind with being mean and discriminatory. I highly recommend Amtrak generally and the conductors are great but this truly sours an experience.
