I did not have a great experience with Guardian when they replaced our roof Sept. 2021. They fell short in a number of ways.
At $33K, it was 25% higher than low bid, but I thought they would be the most professional and quality driven. They failed in both areas. 1. They delivered and partially installed the wrong shingle product before anyone noticed. This delayed the project about 5 days. 2. The estimator said he would leave 3 bags shingle so I could roof my shed to match. The crew set the 3 bags aside for me. However, their cleanup crew grabbed the tiles, and I was then told I would need to pay for them. When I told them their people said, and I quote, "These are yours..." and set them aside for me, they did not care, stating it wasn't in the contract. After 2 weeks of complaints, they relented and dropped off the 3 bags. 3. The flashing work was visibly gapped and not installed well and required them to send a senior person back out for almost a full day to correct. 4. I didn't bother with a review until today, 5 months later, I got an email saying they forgot to bill me for 2 sheets of plywood and that I needed to pay another $365. When I authorized the needed change request, I believed it would be rolled into our no-payments for a year financing but it was not, and no separate billing came until now as they forgot to bill me separately. Their office insisted I was informed at the time this would be paid separately out of pocket, but it was not, and they could not have possibly known if was or not.
My feedback is to treat them like any other contractor and get EVERYTHING in writing and monitor them. They will not honor verbal statements made by their people. If they mess up you bill, they might come back 5 months later and imply you didn't pay your bill in full without an apology or taking any responsibility.
If I'm going to pay top dollar for a roof job, I would definitely go with other of the other well established firms next time and take a pass on Guardian.
Guardian did reach out to me only after posting this review and offered to refund the cost of the plywood if I would only remove this review. I did not accept that offer as I thought that would be dishonest. I authorized the change request and should pay it, and removing bad reviews for money seems wrong. I would count this final ask from Guardian as issue #5. If they had not asked for a quid-pro-quo, I would have undoubtabley updated the review with a positive outcome, but again, they fell short.
