Code Fellows

I attended Code fellows in 2019 and wen through the software development track with python as my primary language. I was a complete novice, coming from the restaurant industry but Code fellows offered me all of the tools that I needed to successfully enter the world of tech. I felt like I had an amazing amount of support throughout the entire process, from staff to alumni, there is an overall feeling of community and support. I really felt like everyone was rooting for my success. I was able to land a job in tech within a month of graduating code fellows and am now a security engineer at Oracle. Code fellows offered me technical skills as well as resume and interview prep, really preparing me for success breaking into this new industry.

I decided to enroll in Code Fellows after knowing two people personally that had done their curriculum and received developer jobs shortly after graduation. Code Fellows is an exceptional coding bootcamp experience that truly prepares you for what life will be like when you get your first job as a software engineer. They provide you with the knowledge, tools, and skills you need to be successful in this industry. Not only do they teach you how to program, they also teach you how to write your resume, interview, and network. I graduated from their JavaScript track in June 2021 and landed a tech job 4 months later. Most of my classmates have jobs now too. It's really a life changing experience! You're going to get out of it what you put into it, so just keep that in mind. It's not just about getting the certificate, it's about putting in the work to learn the skills you need to be successful in this industry. If you fully commit to learning the course material and you keep practicing you will absolutely find success and be able to break into tech. It's hard but absolutely worth it in the end!

I came to code fellows because I was inspired by their message of helping people succeed no matter what their background may be. However, my actual experience at code fellows was very different than what I expected. I don't expect to be given special treatments or for someone to do something for me that's outside of their scope. As a person with a visual disability, I expected c.f. would have accommodations in place that would help me succeed, however I was told this is not something they offered and that I should look for other schools to continue my learning. They are a great Institution and do a lot to help people but I feel like it's designed for people who don't have any other challenges outside of not knowing how to code. For me, I felt like I was fighting two battles, on top of being a beginner with coding, I also had to find a learning Style that worked for me (being low vision) but I was told that learning style did not fit the curriculum and was not accepted buy code fellows.

Incredible alumni and teaching staff. Just got through the 201 (which is the second course out of 4 in their curriculum) and coming into this with no experience I was a bit worried... that being said, me and a group of 3 other developers in the course created a whole functioning website.. after just 4 weeks. Highly recommend it!
