DO NOT PARK IN THE GARAGE HERE THROUGH DIAMOND PARKING!!
*If you get parking through the Kennedy building, it seems safer because there is a second gate to drive through that requires keyfob. After my car was broken into, i parked down there to save my car from being slept in by a stranger and they slapped me with a $50 fine & a note from a resident. So very cool. *
Car was broken into twice and the catalytic converter was sawed off in this "secure parking garage" just a day ago. We knew the U District wasn't the safest area so having a car would be a risk, but their parking garage is completely unsafe and not worth the risk at all. Probably safer to just park on the street.
The garage door has been broken for weeks and does not close, so anyone can walk into it at any time of day. Even during the day, the parking garage is shared with other businesses so its open anyways. There is no security and no cameras pointing anywhere useful. Parked where we thought the cameras were pointing, catalytic converter is stolen, then find out the cameras only face the door to the public elevator- likely caught nothing.
The people working in the Kennedy building office are kind but ultimately unhelpful.
Please save your money and park elsewhere.

After I got rejected, I tried to communicate with them, but they showed little interest. I sent more files and suddenly two days later they sent me a link to sign the lease. I did not sign it because I was deeply disappointed that they would not communicate and also because I thought that rejection was final.
They've said that they would return my $300 when they rejected me. But now they think they have the right to take away that $300 as "cancellation fee" because I did not sign the lease. It was not my fault that I did not sign the lease. I didn't sign it because they are irresponsible and disrespectful.
I lost $345 just because I filled out their application. And I wasn't even told why I had to pay $300 in the first place. They run the place and make the rules to their advantage. They are taking away money from college students without feeling shameful.

First of all, it's smack in the middle of zombie-land. There are encampments all around this building and it is definitely not safe by first world standards, especially for women.
Secondly, there is no door man or secure package room. If you get a package that doesn't fit in your mail box, it will be left on the lobby floor and promptly stolen. Perfect for a pandemic when everything you buy is from the internet!
The parking garage also has no attendant. You can expect to find your car smashed and burglarized on a fairly regular basis. You would literally be better of parking on the streets, where there are at least street lights and potential witnesses. Inside the garage at the Kennedy Building? It's an all you can steal buffet, open all night, every night.
When you take trash out from your apartment, you don't bring it to a trash chute: you just leave it outside your door in the hallway. This is very convenient, actually, especially if you enjoy the permanent smell of weed smoke and hot garbage in your corridors.
And last but not least, this is a classic, grade A, USDA choice predatory landlord. There is not a single thing they will do for you that won't cost you your deposit, and god help you if you realize you need to leave this building for any reason whatsoever before your lease is up. You'll get hit with a massive five-figure bill. We're talking the kind of slum lording that would make Jared Kushner blush.
Long story short, save yourself a protracted terrible and expensive experience and avoid this building (and any other UDR properties) at any and all costs.
