The staff is friendly enough, billing is an absolute nightmare. According to the billing office they are allowed to bill twice for the same service because they claim you were seen in the hospital. I have never been on a texas childrens hospital campus yet I'm paying Dr. Tam Tam and then the texas children's hospital for the same service. Terrible!

Dr. Tam Tam was nice and covered all the concerns. However, I was pretty unhappy overall with my experience. They won't let your spouse come, which I understand during this time of COVID. But they also won't let you FaceTime him in or video the session. They said they would send me the photos and they only sent 13 pictures of the 100+ they took. When I asked afterwards for the rest, I was told they gave me the ones that were approved for release. I recommend recording it even though they say not to. They won't send you all the photos you may want. This being my first baby I was pretty upset about this.

Dr. Tam Tam was exhausting. I researched my son's condition extensively and I just don’t feel he was knowledgeable enough on his condition to monitor our progress due to the way he would handle each visit. Even when the ultrasound results remained stable week to week he always had that “glass half empty” mentality and would never just say, everything looks great or stable or something other than “even though it is stable doesn’t mean that next week it could grow rapidly and need to deliver early” and blah blah blah. Thankfully, like I say before, I had a good understanding of how things would progress and essentially when to worry so I didn’t let him get to me but I was thinking about all the other poor mommas who maybe were not well versed in their baby’s condition and worrying constantly for something bad to happen. This is not good bedside manner for pregnant mommas already experiencing anxiety. I would not recommend him and I was SO grateful when I did not have to go back. Furthermore every time I went they were at least 2 hours behind EVERY SINGLE TIME and I had weekly appointments for 12 weeks 😡.

Dr Tam Tam was kind and friendly, however, I found my experience with him to be horrible and will never be returning. Due to a previous loss of a baby with Down syndrome, he pushed for us to have further testing so that we could abort the baby if she also had “problems,” as he so eloquently termed it. I told him multiple times throughout the consultation that regardless of outcome, we would not terminate the pregnancy. His response was if you are “willing to care for a child with problems that is okay.” Even though I told him that we intentionally refused further testing, he tried scaring us with statistics and information to make us feel like our current pregnancy was at risk. After all of this he even told us we are in a “time crunch” because “in Texas you can only abort until 22 weeks and it takes 10 days to get results back from an amino.” Before sharing the results of our perfectly NORMAL anatomy scan of our CURRENT pregnancy he insisted on bringing up very slight percentages of our chances of having another child with downs. After I shared our extensive knowledge on our genetic testing and research we had previously done and AGAIN that we would not be testing this baby, he brought up incredibly rare odds that this baby would also have the same issues. He needlessly focused on our loss rather than sharing the results of our perfectly healthy pregnancy, causing unnecessary fear and anxiousness. When he finally shared our healthy scans after again doing an additional ultrasound screen for Downs, he told us we needed to continue to be on the look out in future ultrasounds but it looks like “this baby is a keeper”. Dr. Tam Tam’s behavior went far beyond a doctor’s job of respectfully informing a patient of all their options. He pressed his personal opinion and focused on statistically insignificant odds to scare us into further testing against our very clearly expressed desires and opinions. His choice of wording to describe a life with Down Syndrome was incredibly offensive. He never once talked about the JOY and beauty that can come from a child with down Syndrome and clearly pushed his opinion that the ONLY option is to terminate the “problem”. No doctor should behave this way, especially when a patient has clearly expressed their value of life and decision to move forward regardless of genetic results. To top it off, none of this was truly relevant to the current pregnancy due to the fact that there is more than a 99% chance my baby would NOT have genetic abnormalities AND had a perfectly healthy anatomy scan that indicated NO concerns. I will not be returning and would not recommend him to anyone.
