Recently, we purchased a home from a seller who also happened to be a realtor for Compass (she was the listing agent and seller- Gaines.). Everything seemed to be going great until after closing. She (the seller) came to the house under the guise of getting her sign and telling us the passcodes for the security system (this was a week after closing; we still did not have access to any of the cameras on the property, were unable to change the code on the deadbolt, and on top of that the keys she had given us for the other lock on the front door did not work properly). When she arrived she gave me two options: pay her $2,600 to keep the system, or she would have it removed and installed at her new place. Well, thankfully, my father is a realtor and told me about TREC's Fixture Addendum, which states the seller's have to fill out the form to remove fixtures from the property BEFORE CLOSING. She did not fill out the form; she also failed to cancel the Wifi service at the home, so we could not get it installed immediately. It's been ONE MONTH since she closed on the home, and she still has not paid off the money she owes on the security system, so we can place it under our names; however, we have changed the lock and locks, and unplugged all of the cameras, so we do not have to worry about people spying on us. To make matters worse I called Compass and spoke to a management person who said he would call the realtor and the broker and get it resolved. We are going on two weeks since this phone call and the date he said he would get back to me by. We're in the process of taking legal action, but SERIOUSLY BEWARE. We talked to someone else who was buying a home, and he was having issues with the seller's realtor who also works for Compass. The problem is they do not have much accountability here, since there it is all based out of NY.
