I just want to warn anyone who is thinking of getting home insurance with State Farm. Mrs. Eaton has been my agent since I was 18 years old. I'm 41 now and bought my home in 2004. I have everything with State Farm, life, home, and auto. Despite paying high priceses for insurance for many years, I was in the impression that I was with the best company. Last year on April 2018 a hail and wind storm came through my area. Many of my neighbors roofs were damaged. I found many shingles on my grass. I call my agent and advised that I hired a roof company and they advised me that the roof needed to be replaced. At first I sought a second opinion and hired two more roofing companies to look at me damage, I was told the same thing by the other companies. My agent told me that I needed to file a claim. Claim was completed and claims adjuster came out and spent less then 10 minutes on my roof, while I was at work and saw this on my home surveillance. Later I got an email stating that the damage was only 500 dollars, not meeting my one percent deductible. (Never get a one percent deductible, get 1k deductible) I was not happy with my claims adjuster opinion, hired other companies to look at my roof to fix, all said that there was more than 500 dollars to fix and the roof shingels needed to be replace. One company refuse to look at my house once he asked who was my insurance company. He advise that State Farm will make everything as possible not to pay out due to the hurricane claims down at the gulf region. A public adjuster was brought in, took his time to complete a report of damage , two months, I called for the claims adjuster to meet at my home again with public adjuster, the State Farm claims adjuster met with us and roof company, the adjuster just blew off everyone and stated that the damage was 500 only and left. At this point I felt that there was nothing I could do, my wife had serious medical problems, I could not deal with this issue at the time and just left it alone. On December another hard rain storm and hail, caused more damage to my roof. I found more shingles on my grass and had a big bald spot on my roof now , clearly more damage than 500 right? I called my agent and was told to reopen last case as I informed her what occurred to my claim last April, guess my agent never bother to followup with my claim. Claim adjuster refuse to come out due to that the April case was close, I was told to file a new claim by my agent. Adjuster came out and this time he said that there was only 1,500.00 damage and the new hail damage could not be added due to Aprils claim and that there was no hail storm on December. My roofer pointed and label several lifted shingles on my roof and the claims adjuster told us that State Farm policy is that half lifted shingles are not considered damaged and to just glue them down. I was 300 from meeting my deductible . It was clearly that State Farm was never going to help me and abandoned my after many years with them and never making a late payment. I got treated like I was at fault driver in a collision and got 0 help or concern. My agent told me that all I could do was get an adjuster that I needed to pay for it. I decided to take out a loan to replace my roof by newruf company, I had to pay 12,000, decided to leave State Farm. It was sad for me to make this decision, but all my neighbors roofs were getting theirs claims approve and roofs replaced, except mine. By the way I was the only idiot to have State Farm Ins. I switch to Farmers, due to my two unpaid claims in a year, I was not eligible to get low insurance, my Farmers agent fought for me and was able to get those two unpaid claims remove and now I have a 1k deductible home insurance and under two hundred dollars less. I wish I can give State Farm negative stars review, but I guess one star is my only option. I hope this never happens to anyone else, don't believe like a good neighbor is State Farm is there, they will leave you there and take your money.
