I took my discovery flight with Above and Beyond Aviation and it was amazing! Bobbi was incredibly attentive and quick to respond and paired me with Andrew for my first flight. Andrew was AMAZING!!! He was super knowledgable, calm, encouraging, and fun to fly with. I absolutely want to continue flying with them and I'm so stoked I found them. I would definitely recommend!

This has got to be one of the best flight schools out there. If you're in the Austin Area, this is the one to choose. I have not done training with them yet due to an unforeseen issue with my Medical, but I'll write based on my experience leading up to this point. First of all, their communication is unmatched. I've never had a better experience with any other business I've worked with. They reply in a very timely manner, answer all of your questions, send detailed and clear instructions for everything leading up to your first flight. I don't think the process could have been easier. I booked a discovery flight with them and my instructor, Andrew, reached out to me separately, and gave me all the information regarding the flight upcoming. He was extremely responsive, and answered all the questions I had for him. I arrived to the airport the day of my discovery flight, and Andrew was right there to greet me. He did a great job walking me through what we were doing on the flight, and he was once again always happy to answer my questions. We walked out and preflighted the aircraft, hopped in and taxied to the runway. That's where we we're cleared for takeoff, and he let me take off myself on my first flight, which was definitely an experience I'll never forget. After flying around the city for some time and performing a few basic maneuvers (all of which I was at the controls of the majority of the time) we headed back to the airport and landed. Afterwards, we went and chatted about training and parted ways. As the time came to start training, unfortunately complications arose with my medical exam that grounded me. I reached out to Bobbi to let her know what happened, and she could not have been better. She wrote me a long and caring email, giving me all the information I needed to move forward, and made an effort to connect me with people who have gone through similar situations, which was extremely comforting. She quite literally went "above and beyond" what she needed to and as a consumer there is nothing that I could have imagined going better. As a 16 year old trying to figure out my passion, and trying to pave my own path to pursue my dreams of being a pilot, the process of becoming a pilot can be confusing and very intimidating, and nobody could have done better to be there to answer my questions and help me along every step of my journey so far than Above and Beyond, and I have absolutely no doubt that will continue to be the case as I move forward with this journey. Thanks and thank you again to everyone at above and beyond for being so awesome. If you're thinking about working with them, I'd highly recommend them!!

Many students at this school end up paying nearly $25,000 for a private pilots license. After incurring such an expense, they are often met with a "disapproval" when examined by an FAA examiner. I have flown with many of the instructors at A&B and they are almost all nice and seem very capable, but when push comes to shove, they aren't preparing their students per the ACS guidelines and more importantly for their FAA exam. When attending George's UT school, he will say that it costs under $7,000 to get a PPL if you use a Cessna 150. That is simply a lie. Someone should ask them what their average number of hours a student takes to get signed off by one of their CFI's before taking their FAA examination. My guess is they won't know or they will ballpark. I would demand an actual. Then ask how many fail their exams. Its a lot. If you attend this school it will take nearly 100 hrs to get a CFI signature and you won't be any more prepared than if you got it at a school with 45 hrs. Its a racket. The CFI's and Above & Beyond (George & Bobbie) make more money by delaying the process and racking up hours on their airplanes and hours with their CFIs instruction time. They stand behind the notion of hiring "contractors" so they can remove themselves from the equation. Whatever the formula, the only people getting screwed are the students and many are afraid of writing such a candid review as this. Nobody wants to say this because its a tight nit aviation community and everybody knows everybody. Its wrong. Its unethical. Its expensive and it needs to stop. Many would argue that it is subjective and each student is different. Thats also not true. Many flight schools take ~9 months and approximately 45 hours to prepare students for an FAA examination to become a pilot. The average SHOULD be around $7,500. This school is at least double that and many are failing their exams. It is only in small part that student pilots have to fly out to the SE practice area to begin their flight excercises. It is in LARGE part that there is a major disconnect between the CFI's instruction and the FAA examiner. Its all about stacking students hours and nothing to do with completing the program. Unfortunately, the aviation community is so small that many students don't want to speak up for fear of retribution or thinking it was them that simply couldn't handle what it takes to become a pilot. This isn't true. Anyone of sound body with a determined mindset can become a pilot and normally for around $7,500-$10,000, just not at this school. Go somewhere (anywhere) else when choosing your flight school. Avoid this company.
