We booked my parents into the Attwater for 5 nights in June. Based on the reviews and write up in Conde Naste, we thought it would be a great place for them and they were really looking forward to it. Boy, were we wrong. My parents are in their 80's and in good health, but this place is not accessible for anyone other than people that want to lug themselves and their luggage up lots of stairs. Thank goodness we were there to help them with their luggage (there is no staff). There was a personal "elevator" going to their room, but honestly we were afraid to use it - it was reminiscent of a large dumbwaiter. While we appreciate historic places, the floor in their room had such a huge slope to it that it was a trip hazard. They had a suite with plenty of room for a bureau, but for some reason there was no furniture with drawers so there was no place to put folded clothes other than to leave them in your suitcase - I expect drawers even from a Hotel 8... would certainly expect them in a nice room. My parents only stayed for 1 of the 5 nights - the night they stayed there was no cable TV, the next morning there was no hot water and there is no staff on duty at the desk overnight so we made them to move to another place where they would be more comfortable - it wound up costing a lot more to go someplace else on such short notice, but when it comes to the health and safety of your parents, you do what you need to do. When we were getting them out we went to speak to the person at the front desk. They said they weren't equipped to deal with our complaints and that a manager would reach out to us -- on the following Saturday ( 3-4 days later) my parents finally got a call from a manager. That is simply bad customer service all around. They are trying to make my parents pay for the whole stay (even though we had to leave after 1 night for the reasons stated above and wound up paying more due to their fault) so we are disputing the charge through the credit card company. Not what we expected. My parents did say the breakfast was excellent, so there was at least one positive about the stay. BTW, my parents wound up staying at the Newport Marriott for the next 4 nights and LOVED it -- staff on duty 24/7, cable TV, hot water and -- wait for it---drawers:)!!! So, based on their experience I would recommend the Marriott over the Attwater hands down.

Just spoke to this hotel to book a room for an upcoming weekend with my daughter- asked him if he had a room that we did not have to share a bed. His whole attitude was condescending when he offered me the King Suite. I said I would prefer a room with two real beds not a pull out. I was in no way rude but I guess he felt the need to put me in my place and let me know that he was the grand sultan of bed choosing- anyway GOODBYE. I own my own business and would never treat a client like this.

THEY STOLE MY MONEY -I had a reservation for June that I cancelled in May - I was supposed to be refunded my deposit. I have called 10 TIMES and have not received a call back from anyone. No one ever answers the phone, and I consistently get their machine. This is unacceptable. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I am out over 200.00 because they refuse to call me back. DO NOT BOOK HERE.

My wife and I traveled go Newport for our "babymoon" and had one of the worst customer service interactions we've ever experienced. We arrived an hour early to get some work done on Friday and grabbed a coffee and piece of bread while we waited to check-in. Mike, the manager on staff, rudely accused us of knowlingly taking food that we werent supposed to have (apparently you need to check in first which I understand). But to accuse us of "stealing" a piece od bread knowingly was terrible customer service. When my wife went to return the food, he snapped at her to not leave it close to other food. We were shocked that a place that is in the hospitality business would treat its customer so poorly. I had to track Mike down to share our frustration and he said his reaction was confusion and that he thought we were being decieteful - but he completely missed the point. Next time please give your customers the benefit of the doubt! Would have given zero stars if i was able to

Please be aware that if you need to cancel a reservation - even with 1.5 months of advance notice to the hotel - you will be charged a $25 fee. The hotel staff could not inform me what this fee was for, as I ultimately paid the hotel $25 for no service or experience. I understand that it is a small hotel and cancellations are significant, however 7 weeks advance notice seems to be ample time to rebook our room. Due to this policy, we feel that we have been ripped off and we will absolutely not consider any stays at this - or any - Lark Hotel in the future.
Note - yes the cancellation policy does outline this fee. However, I think that most people - myself included - stop reading the policy when they confirm that they can get their deposit refunded with 14 days notice.
It feels an awful lot like stealing to me. And I cannot support a business that would exploit potential customers in this way. It says a lot about their "customer service."
