This past summer, my family and I set out to purchase our first home. As the Portland market is currently very competitive, with homes moving in as little as two days, we knew that we needed a realtor who understood this. Now, this is meant as no disrespect to many of the hard-working realtors out there. But I had this concern that I'd end up with a realtor who was more concerned about seeming glamorous than actually understanding us as a family. I expected to filter a lot of bad suggestions and being told to live in areas we didn't necessarily want to look in. So, quite frankly, I was not looking forward to this part of the process. As chance would have it, I was looking around properties on Redfin. There was one in particular that we decided to check into. Upon requesting to view the property, I promptly heard a response from Lin Petrucci. As you can imagine, I was somewhat expecting either a robot or some very canned response to this. Instead, I received a polite, professional follow up from Lin. My skeptical eye wasn't planning on working with her even as I scanned the e-mail. But then it dawned on me - This was a sincere communication. In it, she indicated that I was under no obligation to work with her, but that she'd love to show me the property. She was so down-to-earth, I quickly felt comfortable with the idea of working with her. We met Lin at the property and began looking it up and down. One thing struck me about Lin. Her down-to-earth nature was the real deal. There was no bells and whistles, no gimmicks. She looked me in the eye, she was relaxed, and she quickly began connecting with all of us. There was something so genuine about her, I was beyond certain that I wanted to work with her within about sixty seconds. Don't expect lots of perfume or a fake laugh with Lin. You'd invite her over for a BBQ. After viewing the first property, she noticed my interest in falling apart, old houses. I asked her about one in particular, saying it obviously wasn't quite right for our family at this point in time. She replied with, "You know, I was just about to look into it myself. Lets go check it out." And we did. Lin took us to some very fitting properties directly afterward. She daydreamed with us, was beyond patient as we paced around and had our rambling conversations about each property, and showed a great care in finding us the right place. There was a particularly questionable fixer upper that, after touring it, she noted, "Don't raise your kids here. This isn't the one." You see, Lin is honest and has a large amount of integrity. She is also quick to communicate, even patiently giving up her personal space in the night hours to make sure things are done properly. Our particular house purchase was a very precarious one. But Lin was steadfast in making sure that everything went through. She was very supportive of our family, and I am beyond confident went well out of her way to make a complicated sale a successful one. During this process, Michael Bivens also reached out to us on behalf of Lin. He invited me to know him, and was so pleasantly kind and respectful. The two of them were a powerhouse of support, sorting out the details, and the backbone to our family buying our first home. Lin also helped our family down to the last hour. She made sure that our move went smoothly, though I'm not certain how much praise she wants to accept publicly here. I will just say, she went so out of her way to make sure we were covered, it brought a tear to my eye. She patiently waited at our home with movers, literally for hours. I am incredibly grateful for her service and kindness to us. Would I recommend Lin to others? Well, I already have. She left me with a hug and wished us all well. Lin, thank you. You are amazing.
