Dr. Wehby is a phenomenally good doctor and a truly compassionate healer. At every step of what was a difficult initial diagnosis and a nerve-racking surgery she was calm, patient and explained everything. The outcome was excellent, and she has remained a trusted physician during the recovery phase. Her excellent reputation is no myth. Thank you!

I have delayed writing this review, because I know my words will be inadequate to express what a tremendous surgeon, healer, and human being Dr. Wehby is. She performed surgery for a tethered spinal cord on my son when he was 5 years old. He had stopped growing for 1 year prior to surgery and didn't play like normal children because his legs hurt when he ran. Some surgeons wanted to wait and see if his symptoms progressed, which I firmly believe was irresponsible. Dr. Wehby was the one surgeon who had the courage of conviction to do the surgery because she believed it would help our child, rather than practice defensive medicine and wait for him to get worse. Our extensive family history of tethered cord shows that crippling pain and deformation are the results of untreated tethered cord. Thankfully, Dr. Wehby agreed to do his surgery. She was calm, factual, and very careful in her examination. The surgery took about 30 minutes and went flawlessly. My son was in some painful (as expected) after he came home, but he told me on day 2 that he was SO glad he had the surgery. He's now 13 years old, and he clearly remembers feeling that a great tension had lifted after the surgery. He felt "fixed," despite the transient post-surgery pain. Every year, we make a family gratitude tree. Dr. Wehby and his amazing physical therapists are the first entries he writes. He's doing great 8 years later. He's caught up on the growth that he missed. He has no neurological symptoms. His scar is barely visible. My friends who are surgeons were very impressed with Dr. Wehby's work. The surgery was quick, pain was minimal, the results were perfect. If your child has tethered cord, Dr. Wehby is the person you want to have doing the surgery. We were willing to travel anywhere in the country for my son's surgery, and we were fortunate enough to have the means of choosing any surgeon (who would agree to do the surgery, that is). We consulted with surgeons from Stanford and John Hopkins. Dr. Wehby was still our top choice. Also, some radiologists will miss the signs of tethered cord. Dr. Wehby will review the MRI/films/reports herself and make her own conclusion. If you think your child might have tethered cord, don't give up finding a solution! For post-surgery, I strongly recommend seeing a good physical therapist (or team of PTs). My son had other symptoms that developed/worsened before his surgery (hypotonia, functional scoliosis, extremely flat feet, missing neuromuscular connections, ...). His physical therapists used a combination of neuromuscular reeducation, counterstrain, and cranial-sacral therapy that helped him significantly. Today, he's tall, strong, and feels confident about his athletic abilities.

Kind, smart, skilled, good bedside manor. I wish neurosurgery were more scientific (i.e. more randomized controlled trials) but if you need a pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Wehby's team is pretty great.
