Dekorte wanted $99 to do an estimate, which is ridiculous. I've been working the maintenance side of multifamily housing for almost 15 years and have used many contractors. NONE of the contractors I've used ever charged for an estimate. The woman whom I interacted with tried to tell me she could accurately estimate the cost based on a description, didn't even ask for pictures. That's a recipe for a $800 estimate turning into a $1600 job because of "unforseen problems". BUT I was then told if I had a much bigger job that the estimate would be free! I guess good customer service is only for high profit clients.

We have called on DeKorte Electric in Portland several times in the past year for our clients. My mother (who is very picky and has super high standards) uses Dekorte for her very old house (my childhood home) and referred them to us when we moved back to Portland five years ago. Steve, who does all the electrical work on my mom's house, installed a new light fixture for us the weekend we moved into our home and has done all the electrical work we've needed, since. This included knob and tube removal and a ton of electrical updates necessary for a kitchen remodel we did ourselves. I love having one person who knows our house and has done all the work. Ken Dekorte does the quotes and is super nice and personable. If anything, I have always felt he spent more time than he probably needed to with us, and was sorry that another reviewer had a different experience. Steve is very trustworthy, reliable and competent. He's done a great job for us and we will continue to use him and Dekorte for any electrical we have in the future! Pricing is totally fair, too.
