*Will keep updating*
I’m a long winded millennial with too much time on my hands, so fair warning.
**TL;DR : I’m 32 yrs old & need to be added to my grandma’s lease in public housing. Amha employee denied application without reason, ignoring all occupancy guidelines. Refused to provide me an explanation (which is POLICY!). Told me “idk what to tell you, file appeal”, yet refused to give me the info on HOW! And spoke to me as if I were incompetent, even hanging up on me!! I’m filing appeal PLUS a formal discrimination suit.**
I meet all qualifications (which she didn’t even check before denying! No background check or interview was held)! No criminal record. My granny and I will reside together and share housing expenses (aka: THEIR DEFINITION OF “FAMILY COMP”). My granny has a 2 bedroom so a larger unit is not needed (they WILL deny an adult member if an upgrade will be needed. Per policy). And an expedited process for this accommodation request to revise her lease based off disability status is due that they’re ignoring! It’s been MONTHS!
If they’re denying me This basic request that I clearly qualify for, I can only imagine how they mistreat and mishandle other applicant’s cases such as dv victims, single moms, homeless ppl, etc! How many of us are out here on the streets who were denied housing or waiting for years because these workers sit on a high horse and have no compassion, Empathy, patience, or General understanding of their policies and procedures and just get away with it because we Be so discouraged that we just give up or return back to unhealthy living situations. Smh.

Been on the waiting list for 3 years. An every time I call the receptionist is SUPER RUDE! I’m never able to get the information I need! It’s really sad that mothers have to wait years to get stable housing all because the staff at the AMHA building has no common courtesy for the underprivileged.
