Got Rm 612 that was booked for 1-night on rewards (points+cash). Literally did not receive any of the upgrades I requested multiple times by emailing in, and calling in twice. Everybody I spoke to said they added the requests to my reservation, but lo and behold when I checked in, of course I was told that there were no additional requests noted on my reservation. Why am I not surprised? With all due respect, every IHG rep I spoke with gave different information so something is very off there knowledge base wise. One rep even told me over the phone that parking was $23 (false) per night with in-and-out privileges included which is NOT TRUE. This is NYC we’re talking about so I knew that was incorrect information already (correct parking info below at end of this review).
Received an email for digital check in however there was some kind of website error so I couldn’t even check in online. The app needs fixing also. The $29 amenity fee WAS waived on reward nights, however that just means the amenities were not included. Which means the laundry and minibar and snacks would’ve been a separate charge. I did call down to request a separate mini fridge, which is complimentary, delivered to my room. The fridge was delivered promptly after less than 3 minutes by a friendly staff worker.
The room overlooks the corner of 44th Street and 8th Ave, looking towards uptown, but not much of a view on the 6th floor regardless. The view was more of staring into the offices of the Hotel Trades Council across the street and seeing the workers at their desk (whom by the way seemed to be very hard workers seen working late into the evening). I was told the room is a newly renovated one, but I have no idea what the other rooms looked like in comparison since this was my first stay. The room looked clean but as an experienced traveler you already know if you run a Clorox wipe over the tables and high contact surfaces and handles, that Clorox wipe will be discolored very quickly. Cannot be so naive as to believe housekeeping wipes down everything everyday (I used to work in hospitality). This goes for all hotels. So I travel with wipes especially during the pandemic!
What bothered me most was that I could smell frying oil coming up either thru the window or some vent next to the window, because when I stood next to the window there was no mistake it smelled like a restaurant that did a lot of heavy frying — and not the good kind of frying either. I definitely smelled it as soon as I opened the window too. Oddly enough I also could hear the faint sound of the subway rolling by underneath. I think this room was directly above the subway station, which also explains the old frying oil stench. Not the greatest room, and kept waking up at night even with ear plugs that I travel with. The faint Subway noise, plus street traffic is a lose-lose to me and this room shouldn’t be charged the same rate. I wouldn’t want to be in this room ever again. Light sleepers should take caution.
Check out was great of course…since there’s not much to it for a 1-night stay. I was kindly granted a late checkout request of 1pm which was appreciated since it allotted me more time to squeeze in a couple city attractions with ease. Your parking validation can also be done at the front desk. They will scan the ticket from the parking lot. You get discounted parking for $44 per night. The parking lot is managed by Edison Park Fast and the entrance is directly across the street from the hotel main entrance. It’s an open-air parking lot with elevated racks. No in-and-out privileges because they park your car on the racks and you have to leave your keys with the attendants.

Every staff member I can in contact with was so polite and helpful (front desk, bellmen, housekeepers, restaurant). Our housekeeper was especially a pleasure to interact with. I think her name was Eunice (we were there OCT/7-8) room 2420). Please give her a 5 star thanks! Great job Intercontinental NY!
