Stayed at Relais & Chateaux's The Surrey Hotel NYC. I’m pretty easy going. I can deal with unforeseen issues, but the Surrey really challenged my patience this time. Rude staff and indifferent service. No front doorman or bellhop on arrival. Had to lug my and my wife’s luggage into the hotel in a cold December rain. I’m a MULTIPLE time return customer. They offer a “early check in” or “late checkout” for $150 extra charge, but when I arrive they leave me sitting in the lobby for over an hour because the room was not ready. So the manager says maybe somebody opted for a late checkout and that's why my room wasn't ready. Ok. cool. The Surrey gets a $150 bonus and I pay for it with an hour and twenty minutes sitting in a lobby. At $800 per night, it’s not correct. When I brought it to the manager’s attention, she couldn’t have cared less. She just rolled her eyes and shrugged. Whatever. Thankfully there are many top quality hotel options in NYC.
