image ON FEBRUARY 20TH, 2024, I WENT TO THE RWJ BARNABAS HEALTH DUE TO A RARE DISEASE I INFORMED THEM AT RECEPTION AND THE FIRST NURSE THAT TOOK MY VITALS THAT I NEEDED A PARTICULAR TEST (BLOODWORK). I HAD GONE TO THE RARITAN MEDICAL CENTER ON 2/18, FOR THE SAME AND THEY PROVIDED ME WITH PROTOCAL FOR SYSTEMIC MASTOTYCOSIS AND INFORMED ME IF MY REACTIONS DID NOT SUBSIDE TO GO TO RWJ BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE THE NECESSARY BLOOD WORK TO HOPEFULLY TREAT ME. UPON GOING TO THE ROOM DUE TO SHORTNESS OF BREATH, I INFORMED THE NURSE PRACTIONER AND THE PHYSCIAN, OF THE PROTOCOL FOR THE DISEASE, PROVIDED THEM WITH PAPERWORK, INFORMED THEM THE PARITAN MEDICAL CENTER STATED THEY WERE ABLE TO TAKE THE NECESSARY BLOODWORK TO BE ABLE TO GIVE ME THE NUMBERS I NEEDED FOR MY SPECIALIST. A LITTLE WHILE LATER, I PAID MY COPAY OF 150.00, AND THEN THE NURSE CAME IN TO TAKE BLOOD WORK, I ASKED HER WHAT TYPE, AND SHE SAID FOR LYME DISEASE AND TYPICAL CBC, I TOLD HER ID JUST HAD CBC 2 DAYS PRIOR AT RARITAN, AND I DID NOT NEED THAT NOR BLOOD WORK FOR LYME DISEASE. SHE GAVE ME A BENEDRYL, AND I TOOK IT EVEN THOUGH ID JUST TAKEN ONE BEFORE COMING TO THE HOSPITAL. I THEN ASKED HER TO LOOK THROUGH EPIC, WHICH IS THE SYSTEM THE HOSPITAL USES TO STORE INFORMATION. UPON RESEARCHING, SHE WAS ABLE TO VERIFY THE DIAGNOSIS AND THE TESTING I NEEDED. I TOLD HER TO CALL THE PHYSICIAN, WHO THEN STATED HE WAS NOT ABLE TO ORDER THE TEST I NEEDED, I THEN ASKED HIM WHY HE DID NOT READ MY RECORDS, WHY HE ORDERED A TEST I DID NOT NEED, AND WHY HE HAD NOT INFORM ME OF THIS UPON SPEAKING WITH HIM INITIALLY. I THEN LEFT. I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS OWED, BECAUSE THEY COULD HAVE REFUSED SERVICE, KNOWING THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ME THE TEST I NEEDED. I WOULD LIKE MY INSURANCE TO BE REFUNDED, AND IF NOT POSSIBLE...I WILL NOT REQUIRED TO PAY THE BALANCE BECAUSE I ADVOCATED FOR WHAT I NEEDED AND THE THEY DID NOT LISTEN NOR CONSIDER MY REQUEST.

image My mother was here for 2 weeks and I can't believe how much it has changed, it was NOT a positive experience. Since the nurses strike they are using agency and traveling nurses, and aides, the care has drastically dropped from exceptional care to sub- standard care. I have voiced my concerns with the hospital and nothing will change because they are not interested in patient care. If you do not have a advocate for your loved one they will not receive the care needed, do not leave your family member in the care of this hospital who is only out for money and sub standard care. I went to visit her at 4pm and she was crying because she hasn't even brushed her teeth or gotten washed yet, I used the call bell and they said, "yeah, sorry we are short staffed maybe the next shift can wah her up" I was furious and demanded a basin and clean sheets and did it myself, also nurses are in it for the money, not 1 ounce of care or compassion for anyone. I did speak with the nurse manager and supervisor and nothing got accomplished, you need to be there with your loved one to advocate. I am a nurse and never used, "we are short today" as an excuse for lack of care!! Horrible care and lack of compassion from staff!! Still waiting for a return call to discuss my formal complaints, won't hold my breath on that!! DONT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!
