Dropped into this Metro by T-Mobile location this afternoon in order to open a new account, port in a number, and buy a new iPhone 11.
The man working the counter and the lady he was talking to on the phone both tried to scam me and possibly steal my money.
After providing account number and PIN to port in my number, they told me the total would be $300 and I had to pay in cash, not card. I asked about the website promotion (iPhone 11 for $99 with a new activation and number port-in) and was told that I was getting the promotional rate of $99 for the phone, but with activation, service, and taxes, the total would be $300.
I asked for a bill or some other itemized breakdown of the costs, and was told by the lady on the phone "Phone is $99, activation is $25, you have to choose either a $50 or $60 plan, and the SIM is $15, and then the computer calculates the tax". After telling her that added up to $200 before tax thinking they had just made an honest mistake, she offered the bundle for $280.
At this point I refused to pay because I realized they were just making up numbers and trying to get me to pay cash so there would be no receipt, proof of purchase, or itemized bill.
I don't even know if the iPhone I was about to purchase was legitimately being sold by Metro, or was a stolen item being resold for cash with no tracking or billing - the whole interaction felt like I was buying from a street hustler rather than an established nation-wide brand, and when I asked one too many questions about just why the numbers didn't add up, they asked me to leave.

The "big" lady that works there gave us a terrible service since the moment we entered the store yesterday plus she added services that we didn't ask for and she gave us for "free" a glass for a cellphone and I was charge $30 for that!! Not doing business in this place nor with that awful customer service.
