Weirdest experience with a hotel I ever had. My husband booked one of the Basswood "luxury" suits (or whatever their equivalent is) using Expedia as an anniversary surprise. He was about to board a plane which arrived at MCI around 7:30. His credit card was charged for the room and he called to confirm the reservation before boarding the plane at 2:30. No one picked up but since our credit card was charged he didn't think much of it. I would later learn not picking up the phone, returning messages, or even having customer service personnel on duty is the rule rather than the exception. When we arrived at the hotel which I'll remind you we had prepaid for, around 8:30 (the sun was still out) there lobby was close and a sign was posted saying they are closed from 9am to 7pm a practice which is virtually unheard of in the hotel world, normally a doorbell will be available and you have to buzz in after a certain time, or small family hotels will have an adjacent living space with a doorbell, but people travel and need rooms day and often night... Anyway an "emergency" number was listed which we called and left many messages on. I found out the following day that they "don't ever" monitor the emergency line, and check the voicemail a few times per week which seems very non emergencyee to me and would probably not be well received if they were to say post that information on the same sign. There were keys left out in envelopes for some reservations but not ours. Keep in mind we booked and paid for the room at 2 in the afternoon. We finally gave up and found another room which was not what we would have wanted, but by this time it was nearly 11 and we were too tired to drive back to Columbia. The following day it took me 5 calls to get anyone on the phone. I was not given an apology. I was informed that the "emergency" (not emergency) number wasn't monitored and that there was quote "no reason a staff member should ever be contacted after 7pm." The man I spoke to said condescending for any emergency call the police "like you would at home." If were at home and had a clogged toilet, ran out of towels, had an electrical/internet outage, or GOT LOCKED OUT OF MY HOUSE, the police might be appropriately angry (and unable to help me) if I called them. Apparently these property owners believe your experience and their property doesn't exist after 7pm. But, if nonexistent customer service is the standard they might deserve 1 star maybe 2 if the property was nice not that I would know. (Clearly the fact that an "emergency" number was posted would suggest they understand people should be able to get a hold of them, but I'm digressing.) But in addition to not apologizing, the person we spoke to refused to refund our money AND the reps from Expedia said they had to call them upward of 30 TIMES before they were able to resolve the issue. Mostly because no one would answer the phone...

BED BUGS in Cabin #15. We do not usually leave reviews, but this stay was a doozy.
Spent about $450 for 3 nights stay in "Deluxe 4 person sleeper cabin" during family reunion weekend. I admit, I should have done more research instead of leaving it up to hubby. The cabins come with NO LINENS, NO TOWELS, so bring your own from home, as the front desk runs out of these quickly. We were able to beg, and rent a few washcloths, a bath mat, and kitchen towels for $5.00. 🙄 We ended up going home Sunday instead of Monday because we were sick of bad sleep on scratchy mattress pads, difficult showers, and ants in everything.
If I hadn't brought a ton of beach towels, which we used for showers, AND as blankets, since there were NO SHEETS OR BLANKETS, we would have shivered all night. Also used picnic blanket out of my trunk to cover me and hubby.
The AC, microwave, and the fridge worked well. TV worked, but make sure you log out of your HULU, Netflix, etc on the last day, or next guest can use your password and charge movies (previous tenant was logged in when we got there)!
Shower is the size of a coffin. If you are over 5 ft tall or above 120 lbs, good luck washing or turning around in it. As consolation, they do have nice bath houses with normal sized shower and hot water. Toilet spins and spins and will drain about half the time.
Also, bring paper towels and hand soap at the cabins, and ant spray.... ants were all over the kitchen having a party, and spread throughout the cabin during our stay.
Pool was disgusting by Saturday afternoon, lots of hair, fibers, white slime floating through out it. I told hubby to be glad he didn't have his glasses on, so couldn't see the stuff floating all around us.
Today we are home and washing everything in hot water we had brought with us, praying we didn't bring home bed bugs and eggs. Kiddo started getting bug bites on Saturday, thought they were mosquito bites. Then we went home Sunday, and at 3 am on Monday morning, she could not sleep because she was covered with about 40 bites. Monday we found out they are in bed bug patterns of diagonal lines, and she had blood drops in her nightgown. Cabin 15 has bed bugs, in the upper bunk!
Called the resort so they don't rent Cabin 15 out again, still no call back yet! Rent at your own risk.

Disappointed in their cancellation policy. Find out 3 weeks before our reservations that we won’t have the kids as expected for the 3 day weekend, which was the whole reason for planning this. To do one last summer thing with them. Was told we could just move it to another weekend. We agreed on a date and called back. Was then told the rates will be higher because we won’t have a 3 day weekend with them and only doing 2 nights. Was then also told we needed to pay all up front now to reschedule. Not doing that, because what of these unavoidable circumstances happen again. So we get charged $150 for canceling when there is absolutely nothing we can do about the situation. We have plenty of notice to still rent out to other people looking to book. This is just bad business. Things happen in life that we can’t control and we get penalized for them. Don’t go here! Much better places to go with understanding families situations. I’ll never book here again or recommend to anyone. Very disappointing!

If I could leave 0 stars I would. We stayed the weekend in a cabin. I came home with over a dozen bites from bed bugs. The resort doesn't answer the phone or return phone calls. Absolutely do not recommend

Awful experience. Called to let them know we were running late and got attitude over the phone. Hotels.Com falsely advertised the cabin as having WiFi, a bathtub, sheets and towels, and it didn’t have any of those. In fact we stayed in the smallest cabin. I didn’t entirely mind until we found blood on the pillows, and so my spouse and I had to sleep in the car. We left them their key in the middle of the night and a voicemail explaining what happened and never received a call back or explanation. Very disappointed and would not recommend this place to anyone.
