First, this review does not reflect on my local store whatsoever. Management and sales there have been very supportive and helpful. This review is specifically to get Corporate's attention. I left the same review on the specific item page on the main Pier1.com website. But we all know that Google reviews get the most exposure. And unfortunately, this review must be cut short because of Google's character limit.
For about a month, we looked at various tables and settled on the Bradding Extension Natural Stonewash Dining Table. The store let us know that they were coming to the end of a sale and that a new one would be starting in the next day or two and who knows, they might go on sale. They did. My wife noticed, so that night, we immediately ordered one as well as a bench and chairs. We also applied for a credit card to receive the discount, for which we were approved.
The first issue we had is that we didn’t receive the credit card discount. No problem, we could probably call the next day and have it adjusted.
But the next day, our order was cancelled. Even thought the table went on sale the day we ordered it, we were told there were no tables available anywhere in the US. In fact, after a very long conversation with customer service, during which I finally got to a supervisor, we were told they didn’t even know for sure when they would be available, only that a few hundred had been ordered and about 90 of those would be available soon, but orders could not yet be placed.
So we cancelled our other items as well. In fact, we had also ordered coordinating chairs from another company, but they had already been shipped and could not be cancelled. So we were stuck with them. Not a huge deal. We still wanted the table.
So we waited a few days. We noticed that the website changed and began showing that tables would be available in a couple of weeks. So this time w went to our local store, told them what happened, and asked if they could confirm that a table could be ordered. It could.
So we placed the same order we had placed before. The store honored the credit card discount, and even offered us just a little bit more to make up for the problem we had. Great. Now all we had to do was wait 2 more weeks.
Yesterday, our table, bench, and chairs arrived and we picked it all up.
When I opened the box, I noticed some slight damage to bottom cross brace support for the base, but we had waited so long, I told my wife I could fix it where nobody would ever notice. So I assembled the table. As I assembled it, I thought the table looked a little darker than I expected, but I kept moving forward.
My final step was to put the leaves in. One end of the table went together perfectly. However, we I slid open the other end to insert the leaf, I discovered that the pins (I think they are brass) that hold the pieces together had sheered off, probably somewhere in shipment at the same time the damage happened to the cross piece for the base. This meant that the leaf would not go into place because it has 4 brass pins and holes as that line up with the table top as well. The sheered off brass pins were stuck inside the holes meant for the pins in the leaf.
Not only that, when we put our other chairs next to the table, the finish is considerably darker than we expected. It is certainly stonewashed, but definitely not a natural finish, at least not what we have seen on several pieces in the store.
So today 2/18/2020, I visited the local store to tell them what was going on. Of course I can return the table and order a new one. However, once again, there are no tables anywhere to be found, and nobody knows for sure when the next shipment of 60-something will be available.
My recourse is to check back with them from time to time and wait. I can keep the table up to 45 days, but I have to make sure that no more damage is done to it. AND if I decide to keep it, the finish is certainly not what we expected. In fact, the first question I asked the manager when I showed her leaf I brought in for illustration, was “What color w...
