They are not transparent about their charges and the ways in which they code procedures. The staff are not willing to work with patients to determine what procedures will and will not be covered by insurance. The Sunbury Medical staff were rude, unprofessional, and not on the side of patients.

I strongly advise against visiting this office because they have have clearly shown me dishonest billing practices and a disregard for the best interests of patients. In my last three visits, I have received two billing statements that contained errors -- one even claimed I received a procedure that never occurred! I was forced to go through an enormous hassle to resolve the situations because the office staff refused to acknowledge that errors had occurred. Eventually both issues were resolved in my favor, but Dr. Bouton-Semmel and her office denied wrongdoing and did not offer any apology even after it was determined the bills were incorrect. I am very disappointed with the quality of care I received, and I will never visit this office again because of the egregious dishonesty of its employees.

They discriminate against you if you have MaineCare. They only accept wealthy clients that can afford great insurance. So if you are lower middle class, working poor, or on SSI then Sunbury obviously cares nothing about you. Also I used to use them back 10 years ago and a few of the nurses were rude to me and one of the phlebotomists was terrible. I said a loud "ouch" once and she said why did you say ouch. I replied "because you hurt me" she then said "No I didn't" and laughed sarcastically. The next day my arm was extremely black and blue on that spot and hurt. You'd think the professional thing would have been to say "I'm sorry" instead of denial. Anyway I know MaineCare has it's problems but it's all some people's got. I'm lucky enough to have Full MaineCare benefits because I'm 'category' but still places like Sunbury think they are way too good and above us. Also I didn't like the way they answered the phone. The woman that answered didn't sound that professional and had trouble enunciating her words like she was mumbling while talking too fast.
