image The SKT staff that answer the phone try hard, but they are understaffed. It's the owners of the company that made SKT a bad company. They pulled this latest trick with getting rid of sending TV through the cable system and now putting the responsibility of getting TV on the customer by streaming through the internet and wifi. And the upload speed is so low that it is immoral. One cannot upload backup files from the computer to the cloud while the TV is on due to the hideously low upload speed. The owners don't care obviously. As far as reliability, it is good as the internet does not go out often. And there are other problems that other reviewers talk about, and this review is getting too long, so I'll stop.
UPDATE AFTER READING "Response from the owner": If streaming is necessary to use, then I can accept that. But as I said, the upload speed is immoral. It is horrible and unacceptable. The upload speed is also too weak to use Roku TV, which we want to use. If we have to wait until mid-2020 for a usable upload speed, then internet backups (very important!) and TV are going to be very bad until that time. Many in my town are VERY unhappy. My wife wants to watch TV and I want to backup files to the cloud - I can only do one and not both, and backing up to the cloud is VERY slow due to the lack of upload speed even if the TV is off. I want to thank SKT for answering my review. At least perhaps SKT is listening. And I want to repeat that the hard-working staff does the best they can.
UPDATE 2024: Things have improved at SKT. The upload speed has increased and does fine for me now. I have upped the review 2 more Stars. Their service is still much too expensive, but all cable companies are too expensive. Additionally, my internet hasn't gone down for a year, and last time it did, they addressed it quickly. They have recently been bought out by another company which has some minor issues so far, but nothing that is causing me any grief. In a word, things have improved.

Hi Phil, thank you for your feedback. Just to give you some background on why we transitioned from traditional cable TV to a streaming TV service, the actual cables for our Cable TV and Cable Modem Internet system are in good shape, but the equipment that allows us to provide Cable TV service was near end-of-life. The trend with customers has been a steep decline in Cable TV use here and across the country. At the same time, we've seen a significant increase in streaming TV usage. It didn't make sense to replace our old technology with the same dying tech. Streaming allowed us to offer modern features as well such as cloud DVR, Replay TV, Restart TV, and high definition for all of our customers without a clunky set-top-box. It also allowed us to offer higher Internet speeds in our Cable Modem Internet towns. The max speed was 25 Mbps and now is 100 Mbps. We are working on additional upgrades to allow for higher upload speeds, and we expect to have those in place by mid-2020. The boom in streaming as well as the significant increase in smart devices in homes has made higher download and upload speeds a necessity. This is a high priority for us. Thank you again for your feedback and for being an SKT customer. I assure you that we care very much about all of our communities, and we are working hard to provide higher speeds and get ahead of the curve.

Hi Mr. Cirignotta,We apologize for the confusion and appreciate you giving us the opportunity to provide clarification. The former owners of your property disconnected service and a technician went out to physically terminate services at the pole at that time. Our facilities are not set up to remotely activate service, which means a technician visit is required regardless of whether you choose to use an SKT router or you choose to provide your own.For new internet customers, an installation fee is charged. This fee is waived when a customer chooses to lease a router from SKT with our Managed Wi-Fi service. The installation fee for new service covers the technician making onsite modifications outside the home to connect service – removing terminators and changing traps – and checking the signal levels for any issues. The technician will also isolate an outlet in the home for the modem. This portion of the installation cannot be completed by the customer.As always and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our customers and employees are our top priority. With this in mind, we are not entering homes or businesses for repairs and installations. Instead, we are completing work outside the home and providing step-by-step guidance for our customers to connect equipment inside the home.I hope this helps provide clarification on our processes and why this fee is necessary. Please let us know if we can provide further assistance. We are happy to honor the offer of a discounted installation fee, should you change your mind.
