Here's a run down of our situation which should all be in recorded calls. I dropped off our tax information on Thursday, March 10th. At that time I was informed that it would be the 16th before she could start on them due to being in the office by herself. On the 21st of March I called to see how it was going. I was told they had not been started because she is still by herself. On the 30th of March I received the call that our return was ready. 20 days to complete our return seemed really ridiculous to us. When we arrived to sign our return was not prepared properly. They said we owe the federal government a couple thousand dollars. I knew that wasnt right. My husband was laid off for 8 months and our business had over $43,000 worth of expenses last year. I dont believe any of the inventory expenses had been deducted, which was around $19,000. If it had, the person helping us couldn't find or show me where those expenses were accounted for. We asked for our stuff and left. We spoke with Robin in customer support and she was awesome! Apparently, the situation hasn't been conveyed properly, because I can't believe the response that we received from Melinda. I was disgusted . She says we can look at them again but we have to bill you for extra hours and its going to cost more because we are short staffed. . I asked her how it could cost more than the $499 we paid last year, and told her that I was intelligent enough to do them myself. I set up a Jackson Hewitt account and began to prepare them. I would seriously like the results of my prep compared to what the Monticello office claimed our return was. You will be astounded that people are providing such terrible service and work under the name of Jackson Hewitt! Robin told us we would be contacted by someone named Tonya, possibly today. Melinda only added insult to injury by contacting us!
Obviously, you can see we have no problem paying extra to have our taxes prepared, since we paid $499 last year. If there was an issue with the difficulty of the job we dropped off for them, it was not conveyed in the entire time that our we were waiting (3/10-3/30). It was after we contacted customer service that they came back with well we have to bill you for extra hours and its going to cost more because we are short staffed. I dont understand why they did not communicate with me and do the job properly in a timely manner.
I did contact customer service one last time and my case was escalated . I was advised to call Tonya at the Lafayette office the next day, but decided Id just finish our tax return myself online with Jackson Hewitt before the tax deadline and avoid more runaround and headache. Im not surprised at all that my online return was much different from the return prepared the Monticello office. It was really a horrible experience. I cant post without choosing a rating of at least 1, but this location gets 0 stars.
