On 3/23 we booked a reservation on the Bonvoy account for this Aloft hotel in Gainesville. I knew we'd be arriving around midnight so I called the hotel to let them know of our late arrival. They said "no problem" and we continued on our way to the hotel. Upon arrival, around midnight, there were no parking spots in the hotel lot. I let my kids off at the hotel door, while I searched. After sometime I called the hotel front desk and they told me to park in the university lot across the way and they would provide a slip to put on my dash after check-in. I followed their instructions and went to check-in. At check-in the attendant looked up my reservation, paused and then informed me that they had no rooms available. He said that I could wait but gave me no indication on how long my wait might be. With my two children tired and no idea of when they would provide a room, I thought it was best to leave and search for another hotel. Remember it is well after midnight and as I went back to my car and started calling other local hotels, it became apparent that there was nothing available in the area.This was spring break and the area must have been busy with travelers. We jumped back on 75 and drove south to Ocala where we found another hotel.
Everything turned out fine and we were safe and eventually found some space around 1 AM but this did not have to happen. The hotel had plenty of opportunities to inform me of an issue with availability. If the hotel would have called me or gave me insight when I called them to confirm I could have searched for hotel alternatives much earlier in the evening.
What I find is most concerning is that I happen to be fairly loyal to Marriott. I stayed in a Marriott property over 30 nights last year and although I did follow up with the chain just to see what happened or how did this problem arise, I still haven't heard from them.

Great experience but I would be remiss to include the reason Im leaving the review is simply Michelle at the bar. Made my experience A1 and even more special because she accommodated my family who are locals in town. She is definitely a gem for the hotel to have. Every one is nice and outgoing but Michelle at the bar drives it in and makes all her guests feel special. Thank you Michelle for the great experience and will definitely see u again on future visits.

Loved Loved Loved staying here! The staff were so awesome... my memory is not good, I wish I could name them all, but NOT one was bad... everyone at the front desk, bar and even a young guy from the kitchen staff, refilling the fruit infused water (awesome!) was top notch! So nice and personable...
Rooms: Clean and quiet...
Nearby activities: Not far from the university, driving distance to shopping.
Safety: Off the beaten path... and not a busy area
Food & drinks: Good bar...
Noteworthy details: Great staff...
