I was a client for about 10 years if I recall. I used them for both business and personal taxes. For many years, the service was good and priced appropriately. Then the cost of the returns and accounting began to increase exponentially. Also, there was a demmand to pay in advance for everything. I told them I a was fine with paying when I picked up the returns, but they insisted on advance payment. Whenever I question the cost or the amount of time spent or if there was an hourly rate I was literally scolded and told the cost is the cost and I cannot question it. Can you imagine? Eventually, I got fed up and started searching for a new firm. I approached several firms and offered to send them my most recent return and have them estimate the cost for preparation. Surprisingly, several in the area refused to do this and suggested I stay a client of Hogan. This made me wonder if there was some price coordination going on. However, I did find some that gave me an estimate and found that I was paying roughly double the cost I should be. Also, these firms had a fixed hourly rate of around $195 per hour for CPA and did quarter-hour record keeping. Hogan did none of this. Once I started using the new firm my cost dropped dramatically and they also found issues with my previous returns. For one year, I saved north of $10k and needed to file an amended return. Also, I was advised of many additional measures that could reduce my tax burden that Hogan never raised.
