I cannot recommend doing business with Mr. Scott. I made an appt. with him 2 weeks ago, at which time he provided an email address where I could send some of my house plans and drawings of what I want to do. This week, Mr. Scott arrived for our appt. with no knowledge of those images I had sent, responding defensively when I asked if he had reviewed them. When he said they're probably buried on his desk somewhere, and I seemed perplexed, he told me to "get over it". I let that one go. Then when I took him upstairs, he told me that bcs we have high ceilings with no attic, he would need to see the plans, at which point I repeated that I had already sent them, and still have them now. But because he was not listening to me, he suddenly announced that I should find a different engineer because "you (meaning me) are getting upset and I (Mr. Scott) am not married to you" ..... that is a direct quote. I told him his remarks were unprofessional and uncalled for and asked him to leave, which he did.
To be clear, his first remark was overbearing and condescending, but his second remark was taken by me to be blatantly misogynistic. Even if I stretch to give him any benefit of the doubt, his message still seems to be a) nobody should get upset, especially at Mr. Scott for his unpreparedness to evaluate a home project, and b) apparently Mr. Scott will only suffer such upset from a marriage partner. I live in 2018 Boulder, and I know precisely how my house was put together and what changes I want to make to it, which is, btw, an entirely gender-neutral topic in my neighborhood. I've been lucky to work with several competent and personally genuine contractors over the years, so it was a surpise to meet somebody so offensive. Whatever your gender, if you're looking for an engineer, think twice about doing business with somebody who interacts with any potential customer in such caveman fashion.

Carl Scott reengineered the trusses in our home for vaulted ceilings. The customer service was awesome! They were fast on the turnaround, as we were anxious to get going on the remodel and move back into our home. Excited to enjoy our high ceilings for years to come.

I usually don't give bad reviews, but I'm frustrated with my interactions with Carl Scott. I scheduled my appointment with him (specifically stating my unit number at least three times) two weeks in advance, at a time I knew I would be home. He never showed up. When I called, thirty minutes after my scheduled appointment, he claimed that he rang the doorbell of every unit in the building (which apparently he only went to four out of eight units). Regardless, he never bothered to call me before giving up and going home (he lives 10 minutes away). He clearly didn't want my business and I don't appreciate people wasting my time when I schedule something - especially expensive consultations. Being an engineer myself, I'm astounded that he never even tried to call me before leaving, and I'm bothered that he lacked the attention to detail I expected from him - to write down the unit number. He refused to reschedule for the same day (again, he lives 10 minutes away). He may be very competent and great at his job, but I will never know. The little things matter and I hope that next time he will try harder when interacting with potential clients.
