image Far away from the hustle and bustle and traffic of the big city, this is a wonderful place to relax. You feel safe and in good hands. Breakfast is freshly prepared in the morning. Very tasty . Nice people. You sit at a table with other guests, which we found very pleasant to exchange ideas with. Warren and family (one of his sons) are very helpful. We liked it very much.
If we ever come to L.A. again, we'll definitely come here. Thanks.
Safety: Since you live far away from the (only) main street, you feel very safe here.
Food & drinks: You should ask Warren, or family, for tips, depending on what you want.
Otherwise it can quickly become expensive.
Noteworthy details: There is a peacock, or several, in the neighborhood. Nice to hear if you like it when he calls "help" ;-)
We were also allowed to do our laundry upon request.

image Reserved a Saturday overnight for our anniversary. This is about the only interesting place I could find within a few hundred miles find that doesn't require a two-night minimum on the weekend, and the only thing I could find resembling a hotel in Topanga. It's a charming & quirky place, but not quite what we expected. First off, it's further out than you might expect, a good 10 minute drive outside Topanga village, perched on a hillside practically inside the state park. You won't enjoy the cool lushness of Topanga Canyon hereit was probably in the 90s up there in the afternoonand the views are of the state park, which is to say some rocky, scrubby hills which aren't the most attractive in July. To get there, you have to find your way up a narrow public road that turns into a very steep and poorly maintained private road. Parking is quite limited and tight. This is a true B&B, and you feel like you're staying in a bedroom in someone's private home, which it probably once was. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated but somewhat dated. We liked the vintage furniture and all the paintings by the owner's wife, and appreciated the dozen roses in the room that I had prearranged. The staff are the owner's children. They were courteous enough, but our only interactions with them where when we checked in and came down for breakfast, which is served specifically at 8:30 and 9:30. The owner, Warren, cooked us a nice meal, but ignored my several requests for vegan options, so all I got was some melon and coffee. Warren is a fascinating and colorful guy, and my wife enjoyed chatting with him for a good long while. We enjoyed being able to walk up the driveway and hike into the state park, for which they provided maps. One surprise was that we were forced to sign an statement that use of any drugs on the property, including cannabis, entirely legal in CA, would result in us being evicted without refund. Overall, it was a pleasant enough place to spend a night, and my wife seemed to enjoy it, but it sorta felt like we were staying at the home of a distant relative and couldn't quite fully relax.
Walkability: Not close to anything except a State Park hiking trail.

image Wonderful stay! Warren and family took excellent care of us. We stayed in the Rhett and Scarlett room in the upstairs corner of Casa Rosa and it was perfect. So relaxing and comfortable, the room and closets were so spacious - and the bathroom area was as well. It had views and natural light everywhere and a wood burning fireplace. They provide fire wood and will bring it to the room and set it up for you. Even the shared common areas have fireplaces. I highly recommend that you get there right at check in so you can truly enjoy the space. I even brought some watercolors and painted a bit from the upstairs patio across from the room. They provide snacks and hot chocolate and tea that you can make in the kitchen too.  We ate at Cafe on 27 (just like 5 mins away) and I highly recommend that for lunch before check in - but make a reservation because the wait can be 2 hours. Warren and son cook and serve the morning breakfast which you can attend at either 8:30 or 9:30 (you can choose which one you want) and it's family style where everyone gets to chat and learn about each other. The sunlight and birds (there are peacocks and roosters) woke us up around 7:30 so we hiked and explored the area to do the 9:30 breakfast. Breakfast was coffee, tea, water, and Oj, scrambled eggs, sausage, and hot biscuits! Warren is very interesting and shared stories about his musical career, travels, and the history of the beautiful Craftsmanesque style house. We loved our stay and hope to return!
