I don't know where to start. The only reason didn't give less stars is becasue I have had postive experiences here before. The last visit was horrendous and I had to leave like a bat out of hell. My issue is not so much with Dr. Shapiro, although she did nothing to mitigate the issues, but rather with her dental hygienist, Portia (sp?). She was rough as fuck and kept putting it on me! She never let me know what the next step was or where she was going with her equipement. I felt like a pumpkin about to be carved. My mouth still hurts from where she intially stuck a cleaning tool.

If you asked me a year (or even a day) ago if my next yelp review would be for a dentist because it was such a positive experience I would have not even bothered arguing with you; I would probably just have walked away.I'm so grateful that I found this office, everyone here was so kind and helpful. I have been struggling with anxiety as well as shame for not having been to the dentist for years. To top it off, I have cracked teeth (molars) and I just knew I had a lot of work to be done. From the moment I called to place the appointment I was told to relax, and assisted in a manner that did not make me feel like I was being spoken down to, or judged. They say you can "hear" the smile in someone's voice and I honestly could. How I made it this morning I'm not sure, something must have aligned because I finally did not cancel with some made up regret! Every person I encountered was helpful, nonjudgmental and explained even their own personal stories to remind me I am simply human. They even offered me a ride home, this is not something I would have ever expected having had such terrible previous experiences back on the east coast (I'm a transplant).I do have to go back (as I already expected), and yes I'm still nervous, but I'm confident everyone here will make sure I am ok. The Dr and her staff have given me the information and tools I need to take control of such an important part of my health, I'm forever grateful. I highly suggest this practice if you have any anxiety over medical visits or procedures.

I'm very disappointed that Dr. Shapiro has no tolerance in her "missed" appts policy. I had literally called Michelle an hour before my appt to tell her I would be coming. I got into my car and the battery was completely dead. I immediately (20 min before my appt time) called and left a msg apologising. While triple A were on their way, I called back again and got Michelle. This was a few minutes into my appt time. She said she'd have to ask Dr. Shapiro because there is a $75 no-show fee. Turns out that Dr. Shapiro decided that I would have to pay $75 in order to go back. Listen, I understand that you're running a business and that no-shows are damaging in many ways to a practice. But ultimately you are in the business of people and relationships!! This was not a case of I just didn't show up and was discourteous and poorly mannered. I called an hour prior to the appt to return Michelle's call, right before the appt when I learned of the car issue, right after I knew triple A was coming, and asked that I be called back to see if I could still come in. Com'on!! There are businesses that are about the patients and there are businesses who are about the business. I'm sure you know my opinion of this particular one. I give 1 star for Michelle who at least tried to help me.
