Now you want to talk about Sea Food "Spenger's" is the place to dine. Fresh and fine dining. Every meal is economically prepared and portioned excellently. I have have worked my way through the entire menu. I must say I have never been disappointed. Portions are of excellent quality and cooked to your taste. Meals are moderately priced for the going market. You will not be disappointed in any of the meals. A very pleasant and clean dining experience. The staff is second to none.

Wow, The once greatest seafood restaurant in the USA has closed!! This was once the 3rd highest grossing restaurant in the United States, with Annual gross revenue in the millions, (Not just of seafood restaurant's but any restaurant) only behind in sales to Tavern on the Green and The Four Seasons, both in New York City. McCormick and Schmick's ran it into the ground in the span of 21 year's. I'm sure that worker friendly Berkeley with their strict labor law requirements was the final nail in the coffin. A once great Icon is now gone forever!! In the 1970's my father and I would buy take-out chowder (always "the White" or they say on the East coast New England) with the 3 pack of sliced sourdough bread, and take it down to the Berkeley Marina, sit on one of the picnic benches, and look out across San Francisco bay. I remember meeting Frank "Buddy" Spenger when I was 12. He was a very kind and generous man and took my father and I upstairs to what looked like a museum. It was full of old ship and sailing memorabilia from top to bottom. This place is now in the hands of a development company who's previous projects have included the likes of Ghiradelli Square and the Alameda South Shore Center. You can bet they'll tear it down and build another tourist hub or upscale outlet mall. Good job Berkeley!!! You did it again!! Scream from the rooftops about equality and then give into corporate greed. Teach that to your socialist student body. Show them how socialism work's while you reap the profits. The only reason I give a 5 star rating, is, as one other post put it "For the memory of what was, not what is"

My sister took me for my birthday dinner. It would be my last meal there as they have decided to close their doors. They will be missed.
