Doctors, hospitals and medical regulators in Arizona are realizing the vulnerabilities in the distribution and sale of medical devices after a stolen pacemaker made it into the chest of a patient in Mesa.A physician's practice purchased the device on eBay.No state law addresses who can buy or sell pacemakers or other medical devices regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. There are also no laws restricting where or how buyers purchase them.State regulators say that limits their jurisdiction in the stolen-pacemaker case and what they can do to protect consumers."What would the allegations be and are they a violation of state law? Who knows at this point," said Robert Downey, a spokesman for the Arizona Medical Board, which is investigating the doctor who implanted the stolen Pacemaker Cardiologist Dr. Ashok Garg then implanted one of the pacemakers in a patient Dec. 10 at an outpatient treatment center.

I would have never chosen Dr. Garg as my Cardiologist. Dr. Garg was assigned to my case, as he was the on call Cardiologist when I arrived at Abrazo West ER and then was assigned for my follow up care after my Open Heart Surgery. At my first Post-Operative appointment Dr Garg never even looked at the open heart incision, he told me what my surgeon did and set up an appointment for an echo-gram. Set a follow up appointment to discuss the results. When I arrived, he asked why I had an echo-gram!! I thought he would tell me. Never gave me insights on what I should be doing to move forward or set any expectations. Set another appointment for a 10 week check up. At 10 weeks he asked how I was doing, I explained I was more short of breath than prior to surgery, he said that was to be expected. I didn't settle for his answer and found a new Cardiologist, when he actually listened to my concerns, a CTA was ordered and results reveal Pulmonary Embolism AND Paralysis of the Diaphragm. I thank the good Lord I didn't settle for the nonchalant attitude of Dr. Garg!
