I had visited this place late in the season seven years ago, and although my buddy and I had a good time then and limited out on coho, the boats were in bad shape and the tackle supplies were pretty limited. I returned this year during Memorial Day and the beginning of King season. Upon arrival, I found out that I would be paired with Kieran (very experienced Captain), who was training two new captains and a new mate. Which was a great deal for me. I told Kieran my priorities were salmon, ling, and halibut (in that order, and I am not a giant halibut guy). As it was, I limited on King, Ling, Rockfish, and Hali. Kieran really knows the area well. I liked that we primarily mooched, rather than trolled. More work, but more fun, I think. We got done with fishing early enough one (rare) clear day and drove to the glacier across the channel from the lodge. Just lovely.
The big thing for me was to see the improvements. Now there are different boats (2 aluminum and 2 glass cats, each with twin 250s or 300s); the tackle supplies were vastly improved, and even the fish processing was improved thanks to Cooper and Joe, and a new processing area. Lindsey did a super job with meals. Even the room was updated. In all, I had a really great trip thanks to the fine people and the improvements made.
