image DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!
The place is absolutely horrible: I don't want to label all the staff (there are few who did care), but the majority CNAs do not care. It is a very run-down facility: leaking ceilings, dirty floors, damaged walls, food looks unappetizing, and you don't want to taste it. The PT and OT sessions are great, but they stop on the weekends. The emergency call button can stay on for hrs and no one will come. My mom was there for 13 days after hip replacement surgery and both my sister and I had to be there 12-14 hrs a day to assist her, because NOONE came. We have decided to just take her home, they couldn't get their act together for the discharge either: blaming her insurance for cancelling her transportation order, not placing her home equipment order. We ended up calling private transport to take her home. This whole thing was very sad and traumatizing.

image The experience we had at this facility is a microcosm of the unravelling of our health care system. The CNAs had the most patient contact but were short staffed, tired, and overwhelmed. They did what they could under the circumstances, and many were kind and pleasant. The nurses were surly and often unavailable to provide medication at designated times or to address patient needs/questions, especially at night. The director of nursing never answered voice messages. The case managers/social workers were barely responsive, not proactive, and unable or unwilling to coordinate with external medical entities. The food was generally not appealing. Rehab happens only five days a week, and everyone disappears on weekends. It is an older facility with shared small rooms, but if the care were top notch, this would be less important. Its hard to fathom that this is the fourth highest ranked rehab facility in Tucson.

image If you want quality care I would not recommend Sabino Canyon Rehabilitation! I had a back fusion and was transferred Sabino Canyon for rehab over my first 24 hours I wasn't giving any pain meds they saw I was suffering in excruciating pain they did nothing but say The hospital shouldnt of transferred me to their facility. In my opinion as for what I observed, and how I was treated and talking to other patients something need to be done about this place! When I was discharged I was receiving pain meds every six and eight hours and was only giving 1 pain pill when they discharged me out of their facility. I called to talk to a doctor at The facility and the nurse hung up on me! I would not let any of my family members or friends go to Sabino Canyon Rehabilitation! when you walk into Sabino Canyon rehabilitation, they have all these five star awards in the reception area. It is a joke!!!! If you have family members in Sabino Canyon, please go there and talk to them and just observe what is going on in that place! I can go on Forever about this place, and not to mention how it is fallen apart holes in the ceiling buckets collecting rainwater in the hallways just stop by and take a tour of it!!

image We went to visit our friend yesterday at this facility. Walked in and turned the corner and there us a trash can to collect the water leaking from the roof. Walked in the room and it smelled like urine. My friends roommate was sitting in her chair still with her lunch tray in front of her and she hardly speaks. She wanted to color, so my husband had to get a nurse to take her tray. No one came to check on the patients. Come ro find out she had been ringing fir the nurse and no one came to check on them since that morning. This is not a clean facility. I mentioned this to the admissions clerk, he said they will take care of it. All they did was mop the floor. I would not recommend any to go to this facility. The awards are decieving.

image If you love someone that needs rehab, do not send them here. There was daily neglect where nurses only changed and cleaned the patient once every morningand sometimes at night. They advertise 1.5 hours of rehab per day, however they gather 2-4 patients in the rehab room and excercise each one while the others wait....it is a group therapy to get all patients done at one time. So your loved one is only getting about 10-15 minutes of rehab per day. The whole place does not smell clean. So sad my mom had to spend her last days in this disgusting environment.
I am only leaving 1 star because a star is required in order to leave a review.
I never leave reviews, but felt the need to leave my thoughts on this place for the love of humanity not a place to leave a loved one. So sad to see the lack of care for those who need it the most.
