Most music directors are good and kind people. However, many are not very good educators and certainly not good musicians. Their auditions and rankings are flawed; some of the directors are completely clueless as a judge, rendering the audition pretty much a crapshoot. This is more pronounced when it comes to judging jazz auditions; some judges are completely ignorant of jazz. It may be understandable that because the show must go on, anyone available needs to be utilized whether one understands the genre or even music. However what's disturbing is that some students already know and have practiced the sight-reading part before going into the audition. This kind of cheating and dishonesty must stop.
