Stone City Guide
Torrance is located along the southern coast of California, and sits between Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes Estates. The city is also a part of the Los Angeles County, in an area known as South Bay. A state wide census put Torrance as the thirty fifth largest city in California and eighth largest city in Los Angeles County with a population of nearly one hundred fifty thousand.
The city of Torrance was first incorporated in 1921 and was once a part of Rancho San Pedro land grant in 1784. The land for Torrance was bought in the early 1900s by Jared Sidney Torrance and other investors in order to establish an area south of Los Angeles for an industrial-residential community. Torrance was founded in 1912 and was officially incorporated in 1921. You can use the California yellow pages to learn about Torrance’s industry and community.
While in Torrance you can check Madrona Marsh, which is one of the only urban wetlands in the United States. Torrance is also home to Del Amo Fashion Center, one of the largest (2nd) malls in the county with 2.5 million square feet. The longest currently running military parade sponsored by a city is held in Torrance. The Armed Forces Day Parade has been performed every year since 1960. Another attraction around Torrance is the Alpine Village. There you can find a European-themed market and restaurant, and a shopping complex that hosts a version of Oktoberfest annually.
